Traumatized by my first mail order chick experience. This morning, I went to the post office and there were two chirping boxes, and my silent box that smelled like death. I opened it to find all 15 dead. I don't want to do that again and am looking for a hatchery in the Bay Area (CA) that sells smaller batch (15 or fewer) chicks. No more mail order for me. I feel so sad about those little lives.

Where did they come from?
Did you track the shipment?
Did you call the hatchery?
They came from Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. I tracked the shipment and was at the post office within a half hour of arrival. They refunded me, but now I have no chicks. I was too upset to try it again.

Really sorry this happened to you, I would be upset too and definitely looking for local. If you don't mind sharing, what hatchery did you order from?

On the BYC here. Click on the FORUMS tab above, then the next line down click on SEARCH FORUMS, in the search line type: California hatching eggs

I just tried this & got a results of California eggs for sale. Best wishes.
