$150,000 What To Do

If I had 150k and had no debts or other pressing obligations, I'd don one of these

1. put it toward a graduate degree that would put me in a better profession.
2. make some updates/improvements to my house and property - refinish hardwood floors, get the roof raised and a half attic put in, redo the bathrooms to 'universal access', replace the furnace and ducts, outfit the kitchen with floor to ceiling cabinets, rip out the wood decks and put in concrete and brick porches, have the basement refinished, put up solid vynil fence around the front yard, get solar panels for the barn roof and house

I think I would like to make sure my family was as secure as they could be in these unsure times. Then a family vacation.

I know what I would do.

I also have my land and cars paid for, debts paid, and kids raised. Unlike you, I have not been told my expiration date, and I have no extra cash.

BUT If I did have the cash and a reasonable estimate of my expiration date, I would think eternity.
Since my life is all about what comes next, I would invest in things that will share that with others.
I would purchase 2 new buses for my church's Sunday School, and put a big chunk into the new building fund

But what is important to you?

Think I will try that for sure,

Take the family on a cruise. Do something with your family now while you are around to see them enjoy it. I get where you are coming from. Your sons are your legacy, use the money wisely to help them, possibly pay down debt. But most of all, love your family.

I'd probably put most of it on my house. Sadly, that wouldn't even cover half of what we owe but at least it would be something! We would spend some on a great vacation, probably Ireland or a cruise. I would rather Ireland, my husband would rather a Caribbean cruise.

Yes if I can get all together.......2 ds and 2 dil all working . that will be the hard part.

Reason going to try and cash in life insurance now......I still have money in my 401 also.

Spend now , leave for family .....lots going thru my mind now.....still home and land will be left for family

I'd spend some, and some I'd divvy up to give to grandkids after I was gone, for a down on a place once they proved themselves able to be productive enough to make the payments. It is hard, and gonna get a lot harder for the next generation to buy homes/land. Either that, or they could choose to use their "down" for education purposes instead.

I would spend a tiny bit to have a memory archive made- one of those people who helps record and write memoir-type stories of things you want to pass down. It's something you could leave your grandkids and they'll you know more though these stories. Take time to go through family photos and whatnot to make sure pics are labeled.

Theme park! Go to Disneyland with the grandkids!

Go see Mammoth Caves. Go to Southern Arkansas with them and dig for diamonds in the diamond fields. Go see the Sunset Meteorite Crater and Petrified Forest in Arizona. Visit the Grand Canyon and the Niagara Falls. There are some amazing things out there that make us feel close to God, and you could experience that with your family!
