My black Australorp hen is still on the nest and has plucked the feathers from her belly.
She is sitting on about 4 unfertilized eggs.
Ithat she stays there for at least the next 3 days and nights and truly goes broody.

I have been praying up and down for a broody hen for 3 years.Broodies are amazing!
This spring was my very first broody hatch. I am totally a convert! Momma hens are amazing! Really hoping things work out for you!I have been praying up and down for a broody hen for 3 years.
I am not allowed to get more birds so I have never gotten some of the breeds that are more likely to go broody.
Not sure yet what egg I'll give her if she commits. I'll cross that road when I get to it.
I do need Legbars, actually. Even better is the fact that my dad wants more eggs and I have customers already lined up to take extra roosters. This spring was my very first broody hatch. I am totally a convert! Momma hens are amazing! Really hoping things work out for you!
*cough* legbar eggs *cough* you know you need them *cough* enabler I am
Perfect!!! I also had very good luck with selling my extra males. Benefits of a breed that are both popular, rare (in my area at least) and auto sexingI do need Legbars, actually. Even better is the fact that my dad wants more eggs and I have customers already lined up to take extra roosters.
No luck yetPerfect!!! I also had very good luck with selling my extra males. Benefits of a breed that are both popular, rare (in my area at least) and auto sexingI know you mentioned before you were looking into sources for legbar hatching eggs. Any luck?
You & me both!I'm very interested to see what this mix looks like.
Darn! I am sorry. Just out of curiosity, can I ask what you mean by certified? No luck yetLegbars are rare here. There aren't any certified breeders within two hours.
Certified is the wrong word. I meant something along the lines of being trustworthy? As in they actually have purebreds and they keep their birds healthy.Darn! I am sorry. Just out of curiosity, can I ask what you mean by certified?
That makes perfect sense! I don't know what you would call it either but I know exactly what you mean. And definitely worth seeking out someone that meets that description.Certified is the wrong word. I meant something along the lines of being trustworthy? I'm not sure there is a word for that but that is what I meant.
