17 week old hen/rooster blood by tail stubs

Your 7 Chickens need a minimum of 10 sq ft per bird in their run (70 sq ft)and 4 sq ft in their coop (28 sq ft) or roughly 100 sq ft total If uncorrected they'll likely bully each other until one is killed and/or cannibalized. Once your flock develops this bad habit it'll teach others to do to the same.Your coop and run is designed for 3-4 chickens max.

Thank you for feed back I did erroneously report coop and run to be 6x3 but that’s not correct it’s 6x9. And outside run area which includes space in front on sides and behind coop is around 110 square feet. That’s said I’ve ordered a small coop to put in a small fenced area I have so I can isolate it until feathers grown in. They really are not all pecking at each other aggressively at all. Often with all this space after they have played and eaten all the treats they chill in a corner together though Ruthster had often hung close by or on the perches.

:welcome Feathers will regrow, but steps must be taken to keep the flock from feather pecking/plucking.
Hi thanks for your response. Yes they do seem to be slowly growing back. We have him in complete new area even bought small new igloo coop thinking we will need sick bay at some point….However he is not happy being separate…paces a lot. Actually found ways to fly out especially around bedtime and tries to get in with the rest of the flock. I have placed netting over area. These 7 have been together since they hatched pretty much.
How long should I keep him isolated? Until tail completely grown in? I took these pictures in last couple of days. Thx

Have your reintegrated Ruthsteer with the others yet? If not, I would, just make sure they aren’t still pecking/plucking.

If you can possibly make a larger run area with places to hop up on, hide under and behind as enrichment this will help with boredom, the picking/pecking could be the start of boredom related issues.

Other things you can do is throw a flake of straw in the run for them to scratch and dig through. Mine also love old bags to scratch at and jump on, half fill an old feed sack with shavings or straw and tie the end shut, throw it into the run and watch them play with it.

Old tree stumps make great perches, fence rails, etc. and move things around and change things up to keep it interesting. Chickens are incredibly intelligent and get bored easily.
