19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

I thought that all hens didn't start laying until like 6 months but by reading this I guess I'm wrong. I'm excited though because my pullets just turn 18 weeks, starting to look around for eggs! But there is no squating and only the BA has a bright comb. Gotta wait.

I was surprised by my golden sexlink giving us her first egg today, at just 16 weeks old!!! Wowzers! It was a perfect egg too, about the same length as the brown store-bought eggs we had, but narrower. It has the prettiest little red freckles on it, just in a band around the middle of the egg. I know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow morning!

Well my 8 are 20 weeks. Last Saturday I got a small olive colored egg presumably from one of the E.E. Sunday another olive colored egg. Both in the coop. Monday I found a larger egg laying in the yard but it had no shell. Pretty much a membrane w/ a yoke. Nothing else since. I'm a little baffled? When I get home and turn them out usually around 5 pm a couple of the girls will stray off on there own into the woods. I'm thinking they me be laying out there???Any thoughts?

You should try putting some nests that are basically boxes with bedding next to the coop. They'll probably start laying there.

18 1/2 weeks and I have gotten two eggs! one i found yesterday while cleaning the coop and then another was layed while I was finishing painting and setting up the nesting boxes.. yea!! i wasn't expecting anything for another month....

We have 6 Australorps born March 10th, and just got our first 1/2 sized egg on July 17th. We got another 1/2 sized egg a day and a half later (not sure if it's the same girl). So, at just under 19 weeks, they've finally started. Autralorps are supposed to be early starters, but I was afraid that this oppressive heat we've had this summer might slow them down.

Only one egg this morning there's been two every morning since Monday although I did find what appeared to be an egg with a very soft broken shell in the coop.. Stay patient everyone I wouldn't be thinking chicken n dumplings yet there still young!!!

I know it's coincidence maybe but last Sunday as I was leaving the local watering hole it was brought to my attention they had made to much popcorn so I brought it home and therm a few handfuls out for my chickens and had my first egg the next day!! So they get popcorn everyday now

My EE's are only 17 weeks right now, so a little longer, I expect they'll be laying by the end of August. The Bantam Brahama's are only 13 weeks, and the SLW's are only 12 weeks. Still some time to go. However my EE Rooster is pretty frisky and thinks the pullets are quite old enough. His counterpart, a barred rock rooster, isn't quite there yet, though they are the same age.

My oldest chicks are only 15 weeks old, so I'm guessing I've got a bit to go still. Two amberlinks and two red sexlinks. Then we've got an orpington gal who is a bit younger, feels like forever before she'll be laying! Just picked up a new silkie pullet yesterday, she's 5 months and should be laying soon!

Our Brahma girl is 8 months now, so we get about an egg a day from her. I just wish she'd use the nest box like a good chicken! On the plus side, she does lay in the same spot every day, so it's easy to find the egg.
