19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??

that's my "Betty White" they are a Sex Linked cross from Dunlaps hatchery in Caldwell ID, they have a description on this website and a nice one on Dunlaps too. So far a very nice chicken I have two they lay early(18-19 weeks)nice dark brown eggs not as in chocolate, but the darkest rich brown so far out of all mine...... Amber's are a White RIR roo and a Red RIR hen, I believe the golden SL are the opposite Red RIR roo and a White RIR hen from Dunlaps??? They told me when they molt they will get a splash more amber brown speckles on their backs as they mature, mine are still very white.
thanks that was very helfull gorgeous chicken

well, it wasn't yesterday. maybe today! I do have new news though, my 16 week SLW squatted yesterday for me, lol. Figures, not any of the other 3 that are over 20 weekers

It's what they do when they are about to be mounted by a rooster. It's a submission thing, not fear or defensive. They tend to start squatting near when they are getting ready to lay eggs, which is coincidentally approximately when they start to mate. It doesn't always mean they are super close to laying eggs, but close enough!
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I'm really excited. Not only is she squatting but someone piled up a bunch of straw that was on the floor of the coop into the corner even though I have perfectly good nesting boxes with straw and some fake eggs in them. So I think I should get an egg any day now. This will be my second girl laying, but it NEVER gets old. I had no idea keeping chickens would be this much fun. If only I had known sooner...

Like yours, mine have to wait for me to let them out (and keep an eye on them), because of a neighborhood dog. The defensive move into the hen house may have been something they sensed overhead. Mine did the same thing when a large raptor cast a big shadow by flying over the yard. They are very aware of their surroundings, even as goofy as they can be.
I didn't see anything but maybe they are smarter than me :)..... it was pretty windy yesterday and the trees were moving alot too. I have put an electric fence around the coop to keep my dogs away from it. After a couple of tries at the fence the stopped bothering the chickens. The electric fence seems to have no effect whatsoever on the chickens! However new issues came up.. chickens started hiding in the trees at night and then of course were loose in the morning when I let the dogs out. I leave for work at about 6:00am so it's still dark. Next step is to try clipping flight feathers on the ones that fly, ie I have a campine, buttercup a redcap and a phoenix who fly into the trees. The big ones (fav's, cochins and brahmas don't fly into the trees so it's not an issue). Looking at combs, the Buttercup has a nice red one now, some of the others are still pink and not deep red so I guess i still have to wait for eggs...:(

I think that the reason the chickens are not bothered by the electric fence is because you have to be touching the ground with your feet, and then touch the fence..that makes the shock. They are just jumping up on it?
