19 weeks still no eggs....

Mine are also 19 weeks old and do't look as mature as yours. I'm also waiting for that first egg. Mine haven't redden up yet. Hope to come out one morning and find out it happened overnight and that they are now mature. I am really worried that they are going to decide that they should just wait till next spring before they lay.

One of my Columbian Rocks (who looks remarkably like the one in your second picture) layed her first egg on 9/22...she turned 20 weeks on 9/25. Then I had to wait three days for the next one. This morning when I went out to open the chicken door I didn't see her in the coop. She was sitting in the nest box and gave me an egg about 45 minutes later. Maybe one of my others has started, but I'm not sure. If not, Miss Cagney is doing a good job because I've had one almost everyday.

It is hard to be patient, but I think you are very close! Good luck!

Are they doing the squat Yet? A sure sign they are within weeks of laying.

With the shortening of days it may delay laying longer. Eventually, you will see eggs, but the waiting is the worst.

Keep us posted.

Patience, Patience, Patience!

Being that you are as far north as you are, you may want to give them a little light in the evening if you really need to speed things up. Your girls are still YOUNG! 18 weeks is typical under the best of circumstances for those PRO LAYERS like "links" and "leghorns". Other heritage breeds usually lay sometime in the weeks 20 to 30. So, keep inspecting the coop. As I am sure you have great anticipation, try and keep the "hope there's and egg inspection" under 10 times a day. Don't want to freak them out at such an early age.

I hope you get a golden egg for your first one. But if not, it will still be worth the wait.

Mine are 27 weeks old today, and I have 4 (maybe 5) out of 9 laying. Patience is a virtue. Too bad I am not virtuous.

I did go out and turn on the timer for the light tonight!!!! That would explain why my Amber"links" laid so young! I guess I was expecting it from these girls....now I know better lol!!!!

No No No No No.....not even doing the squat.... and I pet them everyday just to check!!!

If they are not squatting then they are still a ways off to point of lay.

The first time you see them do it you will feel much happier knowing eggs will be coming soon. Have patience. Hang in there.
