1st hatch lockdown- Did I mess up?!

:clap

May i suggest for your next hatch, put a piece of rubber shelf liner over the wire on the floor of the Bator. Keeps little ones from getting toes stuck in the wire, and also good for ones that may hatch with slightly unfinished bellies.

Hoping you have a great first hatch!
And a big :welcome

Houston we have a problem! A silkie has hatched in the past hour with some of the yoke still hanging off of it. Not a ton, but I'm worried everyone else is stepping on it, or will peck it. It's already gotten stuck to the glass thermometer in there so she drug that around for a while. I Almost opened the bator just to seperate it from the thermometer. Yuck. I'm refraining because I don't want to shrink wrap anybody else though. My humidity is insane at 93%. Is that awful? Should i crack it for a second to get that down a touch? Temps still steady, just a tad shy of 100° although it's hard to see now that it's been moved. 8/13 have hatched. I'm technically 3.5hrs into day 21. Still have 3 eggs showing no external pips. Can someone give me a little guidance on the humidity level, and if I should do something or be prepared to do something that is still working on its yoke?

Oh! And yes I will absolutely be using that drawer liner next time! It's a brilliant idea. I just didn't read about it until after lockdown. So thanks for the reminder, WVduckchick!

Looks like hatching gunk to me, it'll shrivel up and drop off within a day or 2, I had the same thing with a silkie chick and was freaking out over it possibly being yolk too! Turned out the chick kicked free of the egg so hard, it pulled the poop sac out of the egg with it.

You guys are definitely right! I think it's just hatching gunk.. Finally got myself in bed.. But WIDE AWAKE.. there are three shells that have pipped but have made zero progress since this morning about noon. I can't quit worrying about them. Especially because it's my tolbunt polish and BLRW eggs! Lol I hope they are all hatched when i wake up in the morning! Wouldnt that be nice Ha

Good morning! We finally have 1 tolbunt out! Still waiting on a GL wyandotte to zip. Then we're left with 3 other eggs that have yet to pip (internally or externally ? Idk).. Man I hope they are alive in there. What are the chances of them still hatching if all the other chicks are already out? Since everyone else came on time, is it normal to have a few stragglers?
And I'm wondering since the majority of the eggs pipped and hatched in about a 27hr period starting day 20 through 21, does that mean my temperatures during incubation were overall spot on? My hatch is right on tract right? Or A touch early? I was worried my temps were slightly too high a few too many times while im learning my equipment. Thanks everyone!
