1st Time Chicken Mama!

Maybe it's not the first time a mailman left chicks outdoors in their box but, you don't know if the others survived.
You should have them HELD at PO and call you on arrival. Most people like to pick them up as soon as they arrive even early hours of the morning.

Being driven around for hours in an unheated mail vehicle will greatly lessen chances of survival.

Alright

great to have you joining the BYC flock

The norm is you need to sign for them or get down to the Post Office
ASAP to pick them up so you need to have a talk with your Mail Person
and get something going as dialog is important

Remember you just Mail Ordered your baby's think of it as an adoption
and you need to treat it as such ,,,,, I know you do not want to come home
to a box of nothings and you might want to make sure the sender adds
a little heating pad to keep your baby's warm

Thanks for all the advice! I've decided I'm going to take the day off work to be sure they can get into the brooder asap. I'm glad I asked :)

Also, the more I've read, I have another question. Do you always vaccinate chicks or is it personal preference?

It's definitely a personal preference. If you do a search the forums on vaccinating chicks you can read a wide variety of opinions. It also depends on which vaccination. A lot of people have their chicks done for Marek's. Most hatcheries offer that for the day old chicks they ship.
