Let’s play a chicken keeper’s favorite game: pullet or cockerel? Here we have Pipsqueak. It’s a 10 week old bearded Silkie, too young to sex but always entertaining to try and guess. Personality: stays close to mom, docile, still squeaking like a chick. Crest is still forming.

Next up we have Fuzz. It’s an 11 week old bearded Silkie, again too young to sex, but take a guess! This one walks a little taller, has begun clucking like a grownup, and is ornery when caught but still gentle.

I think they both may be male, I see combs pinking up on both of them and small wattles forming. Would not expect to see this in females until just before laying age.
Though I have been wrong before.
You will likely have to wait it out another 4 weeks or so. 😊
Thanks. I got these as hatching eggs from a neighbor for our super broody 5yr old Orpington, and she’s being such a great mama. The neighbors raised 9 chicks from their flock and ended up with 2 Roos and 7 pullets. That’s an impressive rate that I hoped to get too. Oops.

Well odds are 50/50 for each egg/chick!
My first batch of silkies I ever hatched had 11 boys and 3 girls! 🤣
