2 Duckie questions?

You know what, I don't know if they'd use shells the same as grit. It would just be like giving them oyster shell, instead of ground up granite (or whatever grit is made of).
And it pretty much doesn't matter what pellet or crumble you feed them. If they get enough greens like grass and such they're almost always fine, no leg issues (usually a niacin deficiency) or wing problems (angel wing - generally caused by too many carbs and junk food like popcorn and bread).
 
I would not give them egg shells as grit. To much calcium for them. Just get plain old sand. I have a bag of builders sand from the hardware store and I offer it in a small bowl to all my ducklings. Once they are older they will eat dirt outside. I only provide actual grit in winter when snow covers the ground.
