Sorry about your flock. Many people have learned this lesson about quarantine the hard way like you. Most of the bad respiratory germs don't live long in the environment, so cleaning and time is usually all it takes. One warning is that MG or CRD can be transmitted through the hatching eggs, so get your eggs from someone who is MG/CRD-free. Best wishes.

Thanks for your best wishes. Yes it is definitively a big learning curve lol. The problem now is finding a reputable breeder, and how do we ensure the breeder's stock has not been infected somewhere along the line? Or that they are MG/CRD-free ? Have to find a good breeder somewhere in Canada! lol I've checked out the Sell buy & trade but I think it's all mainly in the US.

If you are not going to heat the coop you need to take them in to
a non drafty area that is warner then the coop they are in .....
The only reason for the heat right now is that they are already
infected with this respiratory infection .......

Tks Gander, we are just going to have to kill this flock and start anew. We learned that surviving birds usually become carriers so there is no hope for clean offspring or clean meat out of these birds.

I can say haw sorry I am for what you are about to
do .......... This the kind of think that always scares
me about bring in a new creature into the yard and
I am so touchy about what even another human can
track into the yard as some of my Geese I have had
and are over ten years old .......

to be trashed and the total coop need to be cleaned ...

Yeah thanks Gander, we tried the gassing method but left the car running for over 2 hours piped to the coop and hubby says they were still alive, not running around but still alive. So we stopped for tonight :/ Tomorrow hubby will just have to do the job by hand. But like I said earlier, live and learn.

If you are doing this it wont work as you would need a car from the 60's that doesn't have smog equipment
basically a waste of gas now do not take this as an insult just information the only thing you are going to get
doing this is a massive headache upset stomach and red eye's .......

The best thing to do is put them in a funnel, myself I got a road cone from the feed store to put them in before
or directly after the head comes off ...... if it makes it easer you can put the chicken on it's back and in a
minute or so they will pass out due to blood flow to the head and then turn over and smack the neck then put
in cone or something that will hold them so you do not get all the flapping .......

Ooohh.. thanks for letting me know. Maybe tractor would do the trick, no emission control.. if not just a quick neck wring. We don't need to bleed them as we won't eat the meat. Just burn the whole lot after so that it doesn't spread to any wildlife
