2 incubators set now to hatch a week apart in Novemeber

#3 Dark Cornish is out and playing bumper cars with his siblings. 5 more have pipped and one of those is advanced. There is no need of turners in lockdown because these chicks knock their siblings around like bowling pins.

13 now out. Glad they are doing it on there own. For young pullets that have not been laying long and under adverse conditions I'm proud of them girls.

15 + more pippig. I think one White Giant is out. I know it's not a Cornish with the dark legs. It should not be a Bresse either.

I have lost one chick. It was very small and just didn't thrive. I think that is the first one that I've lost that young before getting in a brooder. Several more eggs have pipped. Most likely this hatch will be done by this time tomorrow night. My digital countdown timer has ended the hatch now. I'm Putting the ones that have hatched in a brooder in the morning with feed and water with the red bulb heat like I always have. A wire frame guard protects the bulb from contacting a flammable surface and I add an extra cage around them for an added layer of protection.

Lost one more little one. The rest are a rough neck bunch of little hoodlums already. I will count as they get moved into their new brooder home after lunch. I need to turn on the heat in the room that they are getting move to. It's about 50° in there now and I"ll feel better with it at 72° and the heat lamp taking care of their needs.

There may be more but I doubt it. I left them in the incubator because can't hurt. I think there are 21 here.
5 American Bresse
2 White Giant
14 Dark Cornish. These can be sold locally once old enough to sex.

The 5 I thought were American Bresse are Delaware. They are white chicks but if they were American Bresse their feet would be blue not yellow. Some how I managed to get Delaware eggs mixed in with the ones I was setting instead of the layer collection basket. I'm bummed about that. Next week I'll set just some Bresse and White Giants.

Today I will start setting aside all Bresse eggs most carefully and next Friday put them in the incubator with whatever White Giant eggs I collect. If I don't have the 41 to fill I'll add some RIR eggs that are cohabiting with an Easter Egger rooster and a 3/4 RIR x 1/4 barred rock roo.

More eggs going into lock down as soon as my mug is empty. The ones in the brooder are doing great. It's such fun to have these little ones to keep us entertained while they start out their life with us.
