In the Brooder
Our runner ducks and little mallard love to play follow the leader with our sons. Our sons are very careful and the ducks have imprinted on them. Well our three year old was touring them around the back yard (supervised) and one duck decided to break rank and got under foot. Her left leg is nearly completely limp though there is occasional movement. There is warmth in the leg and foot, however, no swelling or heat. We put her in some warm water in the bathroom sink and she seemed to relax and move her leg a bit more. We moved her outside in a shallow tub and shee let me feel her leg. There does not appear to be a complete break, but there is "bump" near her upper leg/hip. We moved her to a dry tub under the heat lamp near the other ducks in their enclosure. She is drinking and was eating some meal worms as well as an oatmeal/pea mash I mixed with her feed, but is still unable to stand.
Anything else I can do until Monday when the local farm vet is open?
And why do these things always happen on the weekend when vet offices are closed?
