2-year-old hen has never molted

Poor Bagheera. Her feathers are a mess and she lays like a machine. Her little body has never taken a break from laying and she still hasn’t molted at over two years old. Love her! She has scattered dark, shiny feathers amidst the old tattered ones. Kinda like the shiny scales in the children’s book, Rainbow Fish.

Do you have lights in your coop all the time? Some of my hens few years ago didn’t go thru molts until 2 1/2 year olds.

What breed is she? She’s pretty. My Chickens just turned a year old so haven’t gone through molt yet

Some chickens only molt a few feathers at a time and that is probably what is happening here. The shiny feathers are likely new ones. She may look slightly disheveled but she also looks very healthy.
