20 hours since she pipped...

Yes!!! She was born yesterday at 5:30pm! I was very worried about Tortilla bc she was having a super hard time standing. And this morning when I came into my classroom she was still having a hard time. Her umbilical cord was stuck to the floor, it had dried up and she couldnt move. I had to cut it and free her. 2 hours later, she was moving and walking around.

Its all dried up now. Ive held her butt up to make sure shes ok and it looks good.

They havent eaten anything yet as its only day 1. I think they are ok until day 3. I will be taking them home with me today.

Ok, that's good. Yeah, they can go about three days without food and water, but I like to give it to them by day 2 if possible because I find they do better then (the water especially is important).

I had some chicks hatch I believe around the same time as yours! I didn't know it though, they were a surprise batch. A hen went broody under my house and I couldn't get her out.

Ok so Tortilla's foot is not straight. Not like Salsa's foot. Instead of her foot being flat, it curls underneath so she hobbles when she walks.

Could you post a picture of her foot please? Click here to read an old thread about curled toes. Try making a cardboard shoe for Tortilla by taking a piece of cardboard and straightening the chick's toes out on it and taping them on with the sticky part of a bandaid. BTW like Salsa's name :)

Ive tried for 3 hours to get her foot right. I made cardcoard shoes. Bandaid shoes. I tried cutting the baindaid in half and "tying" her legs together. Im so upset. She just lays there.

She just lays there. I'm so sad that ive broke down crying several times. She's drinking water and ive tried so many times to get her legs to stand. I even put cardboard to help her stand on something sturdy and hard.
