That's why the calves at Sano die on people - they get taken from Mama and shipped down from PA right away. They may be cheap, but they aren't that cheap when they die anyway after you've put money(medicine) into them.

I want ones that have at least been on Mama for a day (the ones I'm getting get to be with mama for two days). If they take them immediately after they are born, you may as well skip it, because chances are they will die on you.

Dad says that this guy usually leaves them with the mama for a few hours or so, they are milk cows, so I guess the babies can't be left on them for too long.
ETA: I don't think he pulls them right away, in any case.

Minimum should be 8 hours with mama

I'm not sure how long he leaves them, I just know that he usually has his trailer in the front yard with calves in it, then the heifer calves are all in a small field, or in the barn. He's too lazy to even take them and sell them.

thats sad, he should give them a chance
there was a dairy farm down the road from were i grew up, and he would give em away if someone would take em, sadly if no one wanted them he would put them down/ said it was too much trouble to mess with them along with milkin and keepin up with the heaifer calves

so far, out of 7 bottle babies, we've had one case of Milk Scours, and it cleared up within two days.

not too darn shabby, if ya ask me

This guy doesn't even take care of the milk cows that well, he's been turned in many times for them not having forage, and no hay in the field. I'll see if he has any available, and what he wants for them.

you say sano (whats that) sorry abbrev.
i wish i could find a good place to get em.
we just got the last 2 from the cambellsville yard, and they seem to be doing alright all though the last 2 weeks have been rough, and the holstein is a little mucussy, and he wont hold his ears right, (treating him for bacterial pnomia)so i would rather pay 20 -25 bucks for a hrealthy 1 then 10 - 15 for one pulled too early
cause youll stick 50 in one real quick

Sano is the 'local' auction barn, it's Sano Goat and Sheep auction, actually. It is held every Friday. The poultry auction starts about 6 pm, sheep and goats are after the poultry is done. There have been posts before with the address, just do a search for SANO GOAT AND SHEEP AUCTION. This will have the address so you can google it. You can also google SANO GOAT AND SHEEP AUCTION and it will show the address.
