Yup I just did. I've not scrolled the page in about 2 weeks. I am now and loving a lot of them. Silkies are the perfect "not a real chicken" for his little skits.
Unfortunately it was expensive for us too & our property is only 60x90 ft but after living here w/ a deteriorating chainlink put up by the original owner in 1955, we HAD to do something to protect our flock & property from vagrants, loose neighborhood dogs, & wild mtn vermin.
In the 1940's~50's on my folks farm they didn't fence the big property... only constructed enclosures for the poultry. The geese were left to roam the farm but not the chickens or ducks.
That is what I thought. A week younger than my monkeys who show no signs of roosting!
For those who may be asking yourselves, "Is it a stupid idea to pick up a single chick with 5 momma's?"
Let me answer for you. Yes, yes it is a very stupid idea. I have really left Ducky alone. Only touched him for a few times those first few days at night to make sure he was not getting squished under all the momma hens. This evening I was out sitting with the silkies having a cup of coffee. Everything was going good. I held each of the teens, and Bosa. I rubbed Davy's back while he was standing beside my legs. Homer hopped up on the chair and proceeded to steal a drink of my coffee. All this time I'm keeping a eye on Ducky and the momma's who were coming close to me. I decided at 3 weeks old it was time to start handling Ducky. I figured the momma's would be sort of ok with it. Oh how wrong I was. I saw my chance when Ducky hopped into the nest box and I went and picked him/her up. Ducky screamed like he was being bloody murdered. That instantly set off every chicken I own including the big girls in the coop. .05 seconds from that first scream I'm surrounded by angry chickens all flogging me at once. Homer and the teens even joined in on the action taking their turns to get a hit in. Ok, ok, lesson learned here is your baby. I will try again at a later date to hold Ducky. In a few weeks maybe when the momma's are not as protective. Maybe a month or two if they take after Poppet who was still being Momma to her chick this year at 6 months old and laying.
I thought Momma Hen was bad, she was nothing compared to a entire coop full of angry silkies. I know she was looking down from heaven beaming with pride.

Lost a silkie yesterday
I am several days behind on reading this thread, and it is difficult to write because I am still having a lot of trouble with my hands. But needed to tell y’all that Snowball died suddenly yesterday for no apparent reason. She was only 5 months old.

Very sorry to hear this. Do you think she ate something? Or maybe a snake bite? I don’t know your poisonous things downs your way.
Weather whining tax owed photos
A few photos of the Noirans, I was only able to get photos of a couple of them, I have a hard time telling them apart!!! I’ll need to take a closer look at them this weekend.
And a couple of fluffy butts! They blend in really well with Georgie
