Hey everyone! So I am getting the birds back to their normal routine after attending the Inland Empire Poultry Club's open show on saturday,(res. champion of show!!woohoo!

) and I am confused. One of the clerks said that California (Ventura) will be hosting the Silkie nationals this year in October. Well, I've tried looking it up online and cannot find anything pertaining to the 2010 National, only the past years nationals. Does anyone out there know if this is true, and if so...location, date?? I hope it's not just a rumor

Wow...congrats! What does a person win for winning something like this? (I know its a HUGE accomplishment) but do you win something other than the ribbon and the chance to hold the title which makes your birds more sought after and worth more? I know some people travel GREAT distances to these shows which is very expensive. My son and I would like to get into showing maybe next year . Sorry if its a dumb question, Im just curious! What exactly do you win?

Hey guys,
well at least I know I'm not crazy and the possibility for a CA Silkie national is there. Please let me know if you hear any confirmation in the future and I will post any details that I find out.

In regards to the show win; it all depends on the show, sometimes I've gotten plaques, sometimes trophies or those pretty giant rosettes. this particular show, I received certificate type awards in glass frames for Ch Featherleg, Res Ch Bantam, and Res. Champion of Show, w/ regular blue ribbons/rosettes for the BV and BB (Best of variety in black bearded silkies, and Best of Breed in Silkies) Plus they offered cash prizes and gave away bags of feed to high point winners (usually have to have a certain amount of birds entered to be eligible for those)It all depends on the club hosting the show, the size of show, etc.

Honestly though, I show for the fun of the whole experience, w/ the friends you meet and continue to see at each show, learning new things from judges & others you may not have known before. Also, I show to determine which stock should be kept and sold determined in part by the judges remarks, it's always good to get this feedback to know where you stand with your birds, & to aid in finding outside stock w/ the traits that your birds may be lacking, etc. It's probably different for everyone though.
