some of our local fairgrounds will waive the lease fee if it's for a good cause (the local poultry club because we clean up after ourselves). doesn't hurt to ask.
(no I'm not in louisana but maine.)
i found prices for the fair grounds here in leesville and they are up there

well i might be able to help with the swap meets..idk I live right next to highway 8 close to leesville..little bit past Stephens country convenient store...lots of space to park and set up booths and that.

Come to think of it my neighbor doesn't use his pasture land..more then enough for parking and maybe setting up as show..i just have to ask and see how much he would let us use his land for a competition...just a thought..

that's a good idea. i have facebook and here that can be used for getting the word out about it. we would still have to find cages or ask people to kindly bring their own cages also could contact the local LSU AG center here in leesville and see if they would like to help, have to also think about who can judge as i want someone who knows what they are doing. after figuring all that out we could work on the finer details such as feeding, what to feed in, food/snacks for people, admissions fee if needed, ect.

i know the Vernon parish fair is starting on sep 29th this year but i dont know who all can enter. i am hoping that my 4 and 5 year old will be able to enter.

Hello. sorry for not introducing myself, my name is Roxanne Sims, been living here for over 2 years now in the area. We just recently bought a house out in the country, hubby works on Polk and is in the military but his unit is down in lake Charles. Have two daughters ages 3 and 6. Now about this poultry show/starting a club thingy...
Okay that good and all but need to slow down a bit here..before anything can happen we all need to see how many people are interested in having a poultry show/club..have a great n' meet and everyone just sit down and well talk chicken... not just here but in real life at a place that everyone can get to.

Takes a lot of funds and time to run a club let alone a show, if any of those are lacking in a bit it will just collapse on in itself and that's not fun for anyone... I should know it happened to me, I tried to start a fishing club up in Iowa and ended up looking like a fool and very sore thumbs for donating my time at the library helping the little ones making fishing lures....also started several groups on facebook and monitor one on facebook and a children game site...those are doing wonderful...
I know there are several chicken raisers around here and on Polk.. We can talk to the local agi dept, newspapers..maybe post a few ads not only in print but in craigslist, bookoo and other sites..saying that those who are interested get back to us and we all can talk about forming a poultry club at this time and date.

yea the first show might not happen till next year. i know kids in 4-h around here show at the local fair which starts on the 29th of sep. this year and from what i read there is a limit to how many chickens can be put in (2 of each pullet, hen, cockerel, and cock). i would like to show in that but unfortunately I'm to old to show for that and it just makes me wonder how many more around here would like to do that as well. i would also advertise not just in this state but also Texas and every wheres else. we might be able to use the fair to the day everyone is supposed to bring in their poultry and after they are done talk to those there and see if they would like to do a meet and great or even a small swap meet as well.

i wont mind putting up an advertisement on bookoo and making a facebook page for a club here but at the same time i want to make sure that there are plenty of people that want to do this. maybe making the page will also help to figure out how many would like to do this.
