Needless to say we are more than ecstatic around here to have found our first goose egg for the 2013 breeding season

198 grams in weight too! - Definitely a day to be thankful for these wonderful birds who share our farm and life.

Congrats on the first egg of the season.

Quick question I have a white chinese goose, not sure of gender, it is almost 5 months old. It's behavior the last couple weeks has been a little different. Could a goose lay her first egg in the fall at only 5 months old. I did find her in a nesting area I have set up for the ducks, she had set herself up in a nest.

Chinese are the best layers for geese, so yes you can find eggs fall/winter. Often they play house long before they ever lay, but keep an eye out. Most lay every other to every three days once they get going.

Funny to see you finding your first goose egg while we in NY State are layering more hay into our goose shed and preparing for a long winter! Ahh to be in Florida and just starting laying season, not ending it.

Ours laid an egg yesterday. I hope they don't plan on starting a family anytime soon. It gets a little cold up here in the winter.
