Our female is only 3 years old this year. last year she laid good. searched the whole pasture. plus male has not gone broody so no eggs.
How much do you usally sell you emu babyies for? last year sold them around here for $50 ea. They sold like hotcakes. after I sold a few 2 were up at an local auction and resold for $30 ea. Lady said they were to fast for her LOL. A guy about 20 miles from me are selling them for $100 ea but is is not having any luck selling them.
It wasn't all that long ago when they were selling for $ 25,000 a pair (nope.. not a typo) at our local auction.. some individual birds even went for that much. Janice Castleberry and her husband made millions just from auction fees and selling eggs.. that's not counting the birds they sold for themselves.
and then the bottom fell out of the market...
Ranchers couldn't even give them away.. no one would take them
they are slowly regaining popularity as a "fad pet"... But there are still some ranches out there who sell the meat, oil, leather and feathers. Occasionally you can find emu on the menu of some of the higher end restaurants
Someday they may regain popularity as an alternative meat source.. but until then prices will still stay fairly low.
Now, Supreme Emu, never having even seen an incubator, will take a wild guess that, once the arithmetical dust has settled, the profit on a $50 emlette is about $1:15 -- ??

we have been getting $75.00 per chick and have a waiting list and unlike some breeders who sell day-old chicks, we don't sell any chicks until they have started eating and drinking. We also make sure that our breeding pairs come from different stocks to ensure as much of a genetic diversity as we can.

Yep....I sell mine for $75 and keep them at least a.week to make sure they are eating well and are walking properly...
Yes when I was selling them for $50 ea here in bay county I kept them for a least 1 1/2 weeks to make sure they were doing pretty good.
