2014 Crochet square swap, colorful circles.

I'm so excited! My husband has to have surgery next week and will be in the hospital for about a week. I was looking for a project to keep me busy while we are there, and this will be perfect!

I was raised by my Gparents, my Gpa (who I called grumps from the time I first started talking) was in and out of hospitals from my earliest memory, so I can't even begin to count how many crochet projects I did while staying at hospitals. Crochet was my go to project to bring w/ me to the hospital since it was so portable.

Oh and I hope your husband's surgery goes well.

Thanks :) I'm sure he will be fine, but having a project to do while there will make the time pass much faster. My great Grandmama taught me to crochet when I was a little girl, and it's a comfort activity for me too :)

I like these squares. They're very easy and I expect to make more. A nice change from the basic granny.

Now I have a rocker up stairs since DW controls the down stairs tv, but it's not comfortable for long sitting. So while out with my sister I found this. Sat in it for a while and decided I had to have it. Not a bad deal for $35. Cushions included. DW says they have to be replaced and I told her the only thing she can do to them is wash them and make covers but that they're going no where.

It's very heavy maple and nicely seasoned, if you know what I mean.

Looks like a great deal, though I agree w/ the wife about better cushions. "Nicely seasoned" does that mean nicely rounded smooth splinter free butt spots????

Glad your liking the squares they really are easy and a lot of visual bang for your buck.

Forgot to ask how many large and how many small? I figure 12 of each. The sponsor can keep the extras for their trouble. At least the extras I make.

Yes 12 of each, as many sets as you like, if you send in extras sets (of 12 each) I'll send back the amount of sets you send in. Mixing and matching of course,

I'm afraid if she changes the cushions the new ones won't be broken in. As for seasoned many new pieces of furniture are hard and not round off. Though I will say hard Maple furniture is not easy to find. IMO sometimes Antiques are cheaper and sturdier than the new stuff.

We all have our tastes and unpainted furniture (Maple) is to me warm and comforting.

The wife has a new sewing machine and she can just make me new covers for these.

She has her grandmothers rocker and it creaks. It's a comforting sound to the grandbabies. However it needs cushions. I've no idea when she'll get to it. The back is slats and hurt after a time.

The other has a rush seat that needs to be repaired and Lord have mercy you can't find folks who do that kind of thing these days.

My new one is much better.

I agree I like old items w/ character better then the new particle wood crap. My father has his Gma's rocker, I will likely get it some day (in no hurry) it is really, really old, she died in the 60's and was over 100 (113 so the family story goes) It was in her house when she was a child.

I agree, I'll take something with a story any day over what they are putting out in most stores!

My mom loves to refinish old furniture, she helped me with an end table that my grandmother had for years and years. Before she passed (this year) grandma had taken all the old stain and paint off of it and it needed some TLC. We painted it a rusty, burnt red, sanded it a little bit all over to age it some, then went over it with some dark brown shoe polish. Looks old again. Has character. Most importantly, its the last thing I got to do "with" my grandma.

Sounds priceless. Of my grandmothers over 40 grandkids, I'm the only one who crochets. I think she would be happy if she knew. Everyone leaves us with something and she left me with this and your grandma left you with the table and knowledge of how to do it.

I just can't find anything comfortable. This new rocker could be refinished but even then you can't get the feel. It's hard Maple and very heavy. Our coffee and end tables are Hardrock Maple and also very heavy. They're hand me downs that we did have refinished.

I was forced to toss my old crochet chair that was Maple too. It had wings on the sides and comfortable spring in cushions. If I ever find another I will fight to have it. The original came from the Salvation Army.

DW washed the cushion and pillow. The cushion cover came off and it turned out okay. The pillow tore, but she sews so she can make a new cover. The chair is the most important thing.

Sides I might need a bit more padding for the seat.

Maybe a double thick cushion.
