2014 Hatchery Chick Orders

If I can convince the fiance to let me submit the order, I'm getting 6 SR barred rocks, 2 EE pullets, 10 Australorp pullets, and 6 Cayuga ducks.

I'm on a wait list from a breeder friend in west Texas for Silver spangled Hamburgs. 25 of them will ship either the end of this year or early January.

He's feeling a little overwhelmed already.

I'm looking into buying some Rhode Island Whites and due to coop space limitations I can't have a huge minimum. So while looking I found some on Cacklehatchery.com and i'm just wondering if anyone has ordered chicks from there and if they were a decent pet quality?

Cackle is my preferred hatchery to order from. However, their Rhode Island Whites technically aren't Rhode Island Whites since they have a single comb--Rhode Island Whites should have a rose comb. I don't know if that matters to you. Otherwise yes, their birds are good pet quality layers and I will certainly order from them again.

my 6 ducklings are still doing great this morning and the little runner even laid down in my hand and got comfy...almost had her completely relaxed and eyes closed twice and she was having a good time nibbling my thumb. ducklings are soo cute..they deffinantly get chicks a run for their money in the cute department

Yeah, they also don't really go through the ugly stage that chicks do--they stay cute as they feather in. However, the mess they make and the piles o' poo are not so cute.

yeah mess and poo piles aren't cute but i may forgive that since their so cute otherwise

After an entire year of research, I've finally made my order. One thing I didn't know was to order early because they didn't have enough of the particular chicks I wanted. Still, I ordered from Murray Mcmurray and the Homesteader's Delight is due to arrive next week. Looks like I'll spend the next week researching ducklings, goslings, and turkeys cause I'll be getting two of each as well as 10 brown egg laying female chicks. I'm super excited to start this adventure and extremely thankful to have found a website with such knowledgable people.

Thank you!

I just placed my order with Mt Healthy today :)
I am getting 4 Easter Eggers (they call them something else, but the woman on the phone said they were usually referred to as Easter Eggers, which is what I wanted), 3 Barred Plymouth Rock, 3 Black Australorp, 3 Buff Brahmas, 3 Cuckoo Marans and 9 Buckeyes. I wanted a little variety in breeds, but really wanted the Buckeyes. I lucked out too, she said they were getting ready to pull the Marans and Buckeyes off their website because they were mostly sold out--and I originally wanted an early April ship date, but the earliest I could get those in my batch o chicks was April 21-22. So I'm pretty pleased :) All pullets.
I've always just picked up RIR's at a local feed store before back in the day, so this is new to me (and kind of exciting!)
Somebody just like me! It's been 12 years (at least) and that is just what I did. Never even knew so many different kinds existed.

Vamvakas - Yes. I wanted to be able to tell them apart and see which breed(s) I like. I want a large bird that's friendly. All of these seem to be that.
LF Cochins are a large very sweet and friendly chicken...i have 5 hens and a 6 week old pullet and they are the friend birds...i go outside and they immmediately come over to me and will let pet them and pick them up whenever i want and their underfoot alot too..always want to see what i'm up to and if i might have treats for them.

i recommend cochins for a big friendly chicken

and it sounds like your getting a great assortment
