2015 breeding season

At least she laid again, I had a BS 2 years ago that laid a soft one as her 2nd or 3rd egg, and she never laid again that year. She did fine in 2014 though, no softies. I am really curious to see how she does with fertility, how long between last weeks 2 and this weeks new one?
She laid the first two eggs on Saturday, 21 Feb, and i just checked the eggs actually she laid two eggs between 23 Feb, and 1 March. I don't know when exactly she laid the new eggs i wasn't at the farm last week. I believe these new eggs from her because they are big just like the first she laid, and i don't think the other hen started laying yet.

as you know im new with birds.....was wondering in the midwest what the humidity should be for peafowl during incubation and then during lockdown...?any thoughts...and when would one from michigan expect them to start laying ...my male doesnt even have the bump yet

There are different opinions about the humidity, but i set mine between 57-60% and 70% for the lockdown.

thanks for sharing the input...i heard they require more humidity then most....hatching chickens right now and setting 60 chicken eggs today...going to be moving the trio of ib out to their pen soon...just gotta finish the top

In PA I like to keep mine between 50 & 60% and after the first pip I go for as high as possible. I've had it up to 85% in my little hatcher.

i will keep this in mind...thanks for the post...with the new incubators i can control humidity really easily...so i cant wait...

peafowl trays are being shipped this week...im so egggsited...so when should i expect them to start laying...in the midwest here...

I don't know about the Midwest, but here in the heartland I expect to see eggs when I see them. Last year I got my first egg on May 1st. A gal up in North Platte got her first egg a couple of weeks ago, and @thndrdancr got her first egg a couple of weeks ago too. (?) We are still getting down into the teens at night so I don't want to see any eggs yet. That and I have more pens to finish and birds to sell so the breeders can have their own space.

If you run the humidity too high the chick will not loose enough moisture and be too large to be able to pip. I try to stay in the 50% to 60% area and raise it up during the hatching. If you want to monator the moisture loss, weigh the eggs before setting and weigh them along the hatching process when you candle. They should lose around 13% if I remember correctly. You should also consider sterilizing the eggs with Tek-trol before setting.

I got my first egg yesterday and I normally get them in April so I am getting eggs a month early. Several people seem to be getting them early so it would probably be hard to say when you can expect eggs. Just keep an eye out!

We usually see our first in Early - Mid April, but last year it was Early - Mid May, I assume the cold temps caused the slow start. In PA anyway.
