2015 breeding season

I have pure White Silkies, Pure White Peacocks and Indian Blue Peacocks. I like the pure colors and do not keep anything other than that, so far I have been very lucky. Many years back I did have other colors of Silkies but I gave those away to keep only the whites. I am starting my incubator this week waiting for my peacocks to do their thing. The Silkies have been busy and even though I sell the eggs I have some wanting day old chicks so I am researching doing that also. I have been working on getting my farm ready to breeding and selling for the last several years. Keep your fingers crossed as I think I have most everything in place. I also raise a few guineas also most whites and light gray color but do have the darker gray ones also. I use them to keep the bugs off my flock.

What do you raise?

I have 9 peas,IB,white, purple BS,bronze BS,and IBBS. White, lavendar, choc, and pearl guineas, a Bourbon Red tom, 4 farm toulouse geese, muscovy ducks, 1 runner duck,1 mallard type duck,2 australian spotted ducks,3 pekin ducks, paint ,splash, white and black silkies, cochins,Black astralops, 3 salmon faverolles, partridge bantam wyandottes, and one or two of many other breeds of chickens. Aren't you glad you asked?

Yes, I am glad I asked - LOL in my large chicken pen I need to start identifying them but I think they are just too "mixed" now. Last year I got a brain f#%t and decided to hatch only my largest eggs from the big mixed pen to get "jumbo" eggs. That succeeded well and now have huge eggs for the local farmers market and my neighbors. Am getting double yokers also. Do you breed to sell or breed to enjoy? I have just started to breed to sell in the last couple of years. I am also breeding horses so my days are full as well as my heart.

I love hearing about your "babies/kids" they always make me smile. I would love to see a picture of your bronze pea. Those are just awesome.

I have yet to get an egg this year. I am jealous - what part of the country are you guys in, must be Florida. I am expecting another white female and 3 IB to add to my flock near the end of the month. They are coming from Florida so maybe they an add to my excitement. ! had 24 baby white peas last year but no IB.

I always get excited this time of the year when I hear about eggs being laid, I shall just try and be patient. Good luck with your hatching!

I was gone Saturday and Sunday and last night while doing chores Pea palace sounded like there was a chorus with all the males for the first time this year opening up with their calling. Roadtrip my bssp male opened up his train for the first time as well and once again it touches both walls of his inside pen which is 8' across. I think the gang missed me but in all reality the temps was above 50 degrees here yesterday and I think they want to go outside. I'm sure we have another cold snap coming so they will just have to wait a little while longer.

I got my second egg today. This one I will be eating sometime this week and also checking for fertility. Eventually I will start incubating the eggs, but not with these very first ones.
