2015 breeding season

No egg(s) today but I did see Alto mate with Snow White. It was kinda funny because one moment she was begging for treats from me and the next she just fast walks over to Alto, who was displaying, and stood there in front of him and he 'chased' her and mated with her. It wasn't really a chase she just stayed in one spot. I am pretty sure she knew he was going to do that when she walked up. I turned to Peep and Frosty who had just finished displaying on the other side of the aviary and I told them they missed their chance.

Both of those boys like to display side by side and it is so beautiful watching them display together. I remember last year the only mating I saw was the mating Alto did, but AugeredIn ended up with at least 2 pieds from the eggs I sold him so someone picked Peep or Frosty over Alto. I am very curious to know who is choosing who!

I know there have been studies of what peahens look for in a peacock, but I wonder if each peahen has her own preference and quality that she looks for? I feel like I read something like that once about peahens having their own individual opinions.

Mine have just started mating, so maybe I'll get some eggs in a few weeks? Probably not gonna hatch many this year, think I'll sell the eggs instead.

i will keep this in mind...thanks for the post...with the new incubators i can control humidity really easily...so i cant wait...

peafowl trays are being shipped this week...im so egggsited...so when should i expect them to start laying...in the midwest here...
Let me warn you right now. If you incubate and hatch any quantity, that room is going to be INCREDIBLY dusty. I am just warning you in case there is a better half or girlfriend involved!

will keep this in mind...thanks....right now burning wood also makes things very dusty...so i completely understand dusty....alot of cleaning...thats for sure...

I also am looking forward to this breeding season. I have two GQF incubators and love both of them (one is older). I do not have a dust problem but then again I have them in my garage. I hatched 24 white peafowl's last year plus numerous chicken and silkie eggs. I also had great luck with guineas eggs. For some reason my Indian Blue did not hatch so I have changed the boys around this year. I have a total of 21 peacocks. So this is going to be a good year for them, at least that is in my plans. LOL

Have fun with you incubators, I just love watching then peck there way out of the eggs. Fascinating to watch!!

Enjoy!
