At work. Hubs is now worried because he didn't realize how quick incubation would go!! Of course it flew by for me. Thankfully I only work Monday next week, day 21 is Wed, and I have the entire week off to play with whatever fuzzies hatch! Yay!

I candled my eggs, I believe my lone wheaten ameracauna egg maybe a dud.

It's day 7 for them so I will let it stay for a few more days before discarding anything.

I have no idea what my quails look like, they are on day 10.

Leave it until day 14... I had a couple I thought were duds (thought I saw blood ring/no development) that developed! I got yelled at by my husband for tapping on the shell to see if it moved LOL. But it did. You never know!

Bummer about the Wheaten Ameraucana dud. I found blue eggs were very hard to judge during candle.
Sally, I'm going to be asking lots of questions soon. I'm collecting ingredients for an incubator/hatcher. I have to sit down and come up with a plan, then I'll be asking for help.

Happy Thursday! Today is coop day here. I have a long list of things that have to get done for each of the two coops I have, I should make a third coop, and I also need to make an incubator/hatcher to stagger the hatch for Halloween here...
. Did you get all of your work done?... I hardly saw my feather babies yesterday, I'm looking forward to getting out there today!
One of my broodies seems to have come down with chicken pinkeye. Her eyes are all icky and gummed shut. I'm going to give her eggs to the other broody & I will probably have to isolate the sick one. Bummer, cause I was hoping to have the two of them raise the chicks together. Oh well, I'll bring her to the vet today & see what she says.
. Ugh. That's no good. How lucky that you've got a vet that sees poultry.
Update on the pumpkin spice soap for interested parties: Swirl turned out fine! I still need to square these off into proper bars but here's the result! Also LOVE the chick pics everyone!
Very nice! Now why do you have to live so far away?? I would love some pumpkin spice soap.

Turns out my broody does not have an eye infection after all; she has a severe infestation of mites! The vet picked her up and shook her & a whole bunch of mites fell out, so disgusting! I guess they are more susceptible to mites if they are broody cause they are just sitting there all day.

So I am going to use the poultry dust on the rest of the flock and on the other broody. My eggs are due to hatch on the 16th, so hopefully by then the mites will be gone.
Oh no! Mites are terrible. I had a severe issue with mites but with the cold weather and a declaration of war I've managed to get rid of my mite problem. Much luck to you.

I ship worldwide! The buzz I've seen on my various social media sites seems positive, but I can't smell a thing because allergies and can't tell if the scent came out. My husband says it smells like play-doh, but he also couldn't smell the VERY strong cinnamon clove in my beer soap (which STILL stinks up my storage cupboard through plastic wrap and a plastic box).

oh yes!!!  I would set those two nice darks in a basket to hatch separate and then zip tie ankles after hatch! so you know who they are! nice eggs!  how did air cells look?

The air cells on almost all of them were loose. The only one completely detached and rolling was the lightest egg. The two darkest eggs appeared to be the best but they are pretty hard to see in. I plan on setting today with the turner off for the first three days. I was going to put them in my small Incubator but they lay on their side in that one so I am going to start in the Genesis and move them on day 8 to the other one since I have another dozen shipping next Tuesday..., does that sound like a good plan???

Not quite. I found a leak in the watering system so I added to the list and checked off fewer things than expected.

Great!
So I have an old aquarium and an old drawer as bases. I have a clamp light and ceramic sockets. I have containers for water and a large computer fan. I still need insulation, covers, and a thermostat. I haven't finished the plan yet either.

Where do I scalp the thermostat? I saw some on Amazon, but if you have ideas of where to get one free that's better for me.

I just set the Halloween Brabanters! (My incubator sometimes makes late hatches.)
