read the eggs and get that humidity down for now

I tossed all of the BLRW. At day 8 I saw no development. The Barnevelders and BCM are difficult to read due to shell color (beautiful, so I hope they are growing pullets). I have some Lav Ameraucana and CCL developing nicely. So, 10/15 left. I brought down the humidity and I know I can bring it up to hatch level so once I install and fiddle with the thermostat I'll consider moving the eggs. *deep breath and crosses fingers*
I'll candle the Brabanters tonight (Day 6ish). Keep rooting Sally. ;)

How long before I worry? Pip#1 started zipping but it's going lengtwise? Let's see if I can upload a pic from my phone...
how long since the pip? its a standard?

Salt potatoes. Corn on the cob. Quick breads.
whats a salt pot?

I just did the first candle, and all seven eggs are fertile! Even the little pullet CCL egg I set. That one will be a sex link, so everyone think pullety thoughts for it

D: Here's to hoping.

It's been about 15 hours since the first pip, and it's a bantam egg. S/he's gotten a bit further but is resting right now. It's fun to watch the two that are zipping talk to each other.
Zipping shouldn't take more than an hour or so. You don't want the chick to get worn out by banging it's head against the shell and getting nowhere. If it stops making progress for more than an hour or so, I would try to help, very carefully of course.

The time it takes depends on the breed. Orpingtons are famous for stopping in the middle of zipping. I give them more time--actually I usually try not to help at all.
