After seeing all the babies...........I may have to order some eggs to raise some purebreds till my Silkies lays more regular!! I've seen some gorgeous birds and now I want more.......

My babies are selling like crazy. I have 4 people coming over and had to start banding them to tell them apart

A couple of questions: What is a poo catcher? Hammock?? Yesterday it took over 4 hours to clean the coops and just cleaned it a few days ago. I have too many roosting lol.

Also, if you set eggs in a homemade bator while waiting on the next bator (I know..........past addiction now...) Can you prop the whole cooler at different angles during the day or do all eggs need turned by hand?? This one doesn't have an egg turner in it and am working on an old toy chest bator.

And last......................who raises Silkies on here and do you have any suggestions on their eggs hatching? I read they hatch earlier. BUT is it the same temps etc? My Silkie eggs did not hatch, I just got a cross out of the batch

I will show you my spoiled brats, but not show you what they do to fowl

cause its not nice!

some of my springers when I was going to take a nap on the couch after working on the living room, see who gets the dog bed?

this is our Boy, "Cire" aka Diaper boy, only way to keep him in the house with me, and I hate outside dogs, refuse to put him out!
He is our breeder male and tends to mark his territory when the girls are in the mood, so band around the belly it is! aka diaper boy

Just born pup from last year.... so cute!
Note: NOT my hands and fingernails!!! my niece helped deliver pups!
I have never seen nails like that on these nasty rough hands, although wish I had nice ones

AND my most fav puppies image EVER....

Great that you are selling like crazy, esp this time of year!

simple time saving TURNING TRICK without a turner...... I roll my eggs with my palm...... IFFFFFFF you have enough room to do so and get them rolled well! gently but well.... just roll them around to one end of the bator, if I have enough room I leave them there and then roll back the next time I roll them, I always roll them into different spots, its really not rocket science. I have been doing this for a long time now. The trouble with propping the bator is eggs hitting and breaking, I dont advise it, been there done it lol. ANOTHER TRICK is to turn more than three times a day!!! just because its suggested doesnt mean its best, the more you can do is always BEST!!!!! even two more times is better!!! turn those eggs!! Turn those eggs!!!

When I raised silkies, I had temps at 100.5 and had humidity set at 45 degrees and then up to 65 degree for lockdown. For some reason they didnt like it dry in the bator like serama dont, but you need to WATCH air cells at day 7-10 candle and adjust humidity starting then. I did them the same as I do serama and did very well with them.

Thank you :) The Silkies not liking dry...........looks like that's what happened....they were dry........maybe due to being so tiny???

That poop catcher will fit perfectly on our roost and I have a tarp! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

I Heard you can use Bacitracin to moisten the membrane if you need to keep a dry one wet. They only sell it with zinc and I have not tried this........has anyone tried this and does the zinc harm the chick?

do you have a cell phone with a flashlight ap? try that at the fat end of the egg. yolks will move around the egg. no veins at day 7 in not good, unless your flashlight is crappy, have you calibrated thermometers? If you think your flashlight was bright enough and your temps are spot on all you can do is wait a few more days and candle again. If in a few days nothing, crack one open in a sealed baggy and check for fertility.

LOL you crack me up!!!!

my dogs eat birds

yea see above comment lol I breed English Springer Spaniels
I have rough collies, you'd think they would be a lot better with herd and flock animals but you'd be surprised XD

OKAY. Monday I completely deep-cleaned the coop (even scrubbed and sprayed soap and water to get all the dirt and stains out) and sprayed mite killer, Wednesday I rebuilt the roosts and sprayed mite killer again, and today I dusted and washed the coop liner then sprayed mite killer and replaced the liner and the bedding.
IF I STILL HAVE MITES I AM GOING TO THROW A FIT.
Between the yearly molt, mite problems, a really crummy prefab coop, and the weather I haven't gotten any eggs in close to two months. Molt is nearly over so this better work or i'm going to need to build a new coop before the winter instead of in Spring/Summer like I'd planned.
