Hi everyone!!! Wow, sorry I've been off so long..........got sick, have company and babies hatching all over.........the new 96 egg bator was crap so eggs stopped turning on BOTH turners and the poor eggs sat a couple days before I noticed with all going on. Guess they'll get thrown today. Your babies are AWESOME!!!!!

They are cute...hey, I think we got the same bator, serious. Is it yellow? Temps and humidity given in Celsius?

My turner went out too..it had two sides..the right side went out first. I didn't know it for a while either. Don't throw your eggs out! I went and bought another turner for it. My hubby made a spot for the cord. This is the hatch that went so well! 26 babies out of 29..and they were in that bator. It is a really good bator, it's just the turner that's bad. That thing holds the temp and humidity like no other. In fact, you have to be careful not to add much water. I just put a couple of drops in there about twice a week..serious! I had put a thermometer in there that I usually use to see where it will read when I had it in there. Adjusted the temps on the bator with it, and that was that. Don't throw your eggs out! Just hand turn until you can get a turner. I once had some eggs in a turner and forgot to plug the turner in for three days.

I didn't pay attention did I? lol..anyway, eggs did fine.

Sally and Cynthia...yes it has the split egg turner. Both motors didn't work.....so its like going on 3 days no turning is yours made out of that super cheap plastic on the turners? I asked for a refund

Yes, they were way cheaply made. My hubby said it wasn't the motor, the motor was good on ours, it was the cheap turners, they couldn't hold the weight of all of our eggs. They caught stuck, and they were floppy when you touched them, wouldn't stay put. You could move the trays back and forth..not supposed to be able to do that. Like I said, love the bator, so just got a new turner. Works great. Have some little silkies in there now.

You guys are so sweet! I did have fun...until the bee stung me. Then I was in bed for a week.

Didn't know this but apparently it gets worse with every sting. Now I have to keep an Epi pen.

I am going to try for another one, my little baby is SO cute & SO funny! I need to take a picture. In the week I was in bed, she(?) feathered out with more white feathers & is SO FLUFFY!

As long as you enjoy trying..you have another shipment coming from me. You are up against some odds though. How do I put this politely....I have no faith at all in those incubators. If you are sure that you have really good thermometers that you can trust, that's a great thing. Humidity, you seem to be on top of it. The turning ...? Not so sure about those little bators.
And.... you are trying to hatch one of the most difficult of chickens- from shipped eggs. I know other breeders who won't ship Serama eggs because of this. I will, but I usually end up shipping a second batch to give better odds. Sometimes, someone will surprise me and hatch about half the eggs. It took me awhile to build my Serama flock, hatching one or two, sometimes none from shipped eggs.
If you don't care much for hatching eggs, and all you want is a buddy for your little girl, you might consider having one shipped to you. If you really want to hatch your own, keep on trying, it will happen. Only you can justify the expense of another incubator and how much use you would get out of it. I guess you could always resell it if you get something like a Brinsea. Even a styro-bator would be better. We understand those well.
So don't kick yourself, at all. and get out there and do something for Halloween! We'll work on a Thanksgiving chick....or a Christmas chick....

I do like learning how to do this & I was so sure that last one was going to make it. The new incubator works better than the first in keeping steady temperature & I do have a couple of thermometers. I know you don't have faith in the little incubators, truthfully I'm getting to that point too. But I am stubborn & will give it another chance.I do make sure to roll the whole incubator by alteranting the tilt of each leg a couple of times a day but I do have the option of laying the eggs flat if I remove the insert holder, maybe it's worth trying that. I was so upset with that used foam one I had borrowed last time but I'm sure a new one wouldn't have the issues it did....or a Brinsea...

I would be lying if I said I didn't like the hatching thing so I would like to try it again. I'm feeling a bit better to know that you had some issues too & I do very much appreciate the eggs you ship!
I would like to go for a Turkey day chick or 3!

Sorry everyone that I haven't been on been so busy first of at least three family thanksgivings are done and today we had some tragedy strike when my 7 week olds came down with what I think is coccidiosis(sp?) We lost three of the six so far and I'm rooting and pushing hard for the other three. They're being treated with corid but I'm worried about the rest of my flocks. They haven't been introduced yet but there are some other chicks in separate brooders in that room. Do I need to be worried about and or treat them too? They seem okay so farm but so did these chicks. In fact two seemed completely fine until they were dead. Today has been a rough chicken day. Goodnight all and congrats on all the babies.

So sorry about your babies. Thats rough. I've been through that before.

So where are these chicks? If they haven't been exposed to the flock or the coop (or any of the older birds belongings), would cocci be the issue? I know it lives in the soil and such, but would it be in someone's house too? I have always felt that the chicks are pretty safe in the brooder, and it wasn't until they where put outside that they were at risk.

cocci can be a pain in the butt, I would treat them yes. it can hit them like a brick. some say ammonia cleans it better than anything else too when cleaning brooders and such..... oh. read the ingredients in corid, you can get it cheaper in the generic form
