2015 New York Chickenstock

NUTTY! I got a Columbian Rock egg. Large one too. I saw a roo on a hen today so I'll be saving it and firing up the incubator for sure. Every egg is going to be hatched.

I have some flat stones from in front of the house to move. I keep restacking them but the freezing messes them up again. I'm tired. Plus some large pieces of cement I dug out of the yard. I do have some large slabs of cement too, but I sure can't move them. Not sure why they weren't broken up with a jack hammer.

I remember my SIL and hers had a pond that drained. Alan said something about using clay cat litter to fix the leak. I know nothing about ponds.
I don't know much either, but I have started to look in to it more. I want to have the neighbor come with the back hoe and dig me a big hole, but hubby says that I might not be able to do it where I want. I have the little one that I dug last year, but I'm thinking about clearing out some bushes and some other things out from around the big hole that we have on the other side of the house. I think that it used to be where a silo was, but it is a little farther away then I would like...

Looks like you have a good start. Maybe if I bring the BFH I can break it up or maybe I can convince DH to come and help break the big stuff up.

Have you seen the ad for those yellow hop peppers?  I keep thinking Peppers are so easy to can why would you buy them?  I expect three plants would produce enough for the average family for a year.  I learned that when it's to hot peppers don't set flowers. Is that right. I had a hard time getting mine to grow.

I haven't seen the yellow one, mine did fantastic last year I dedicated one of my green houses to them just need to make sure if it is hot they don't get too hot and then they are just fine peppers love the heat

I try to grow to the recipe I want. No sense in growing stuff I can't use or don't like. Which is why I don't grow Brussel sprouts.

I did have a good crop of Okra once. Might do that again. Oh and Leeks but didn't know they could be frozen. I freeze to the recipe too. Though sometimes the Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries end up in Smoothies.

Ian looking into a greenhouse. What kind do you have? Any suggestions for upstate ny?
You do know that Harbor Freight has a cheap one. About $300.00 I've got to research green house growing. I bought one of those cheap ones TSC sells for $20. What a waste. They get really hot if you don't monitor them. Which of course is why I've got to look into using a green house.

This coop run is covered mostly with plastic now, but when it was completely covered it got real humid and too warm for the chickens. Placement is key too. The sun comes up in the front of it.

Green houses and chickens don't go together well unless you've got really good ventilation.

@ rancher...thanks for sharing. You are using hoop frames...cool. I did see the harbor freight one. I have been going back and forth on this investment!

I use a small Harbor Freight type - it's handy for a small amount. Like Rancher says, the plants do dry out quickly so I tend to it 2x day. I have just finished doing a 'hoop house' frame. Look in the learning center tab for coop design. Pyxis had a nice design for a hoop coop that can be utilized as a greenhouse with some slight modification. If you are handy, it really is quite easy.
