Congrats!!!

X - 2 !!

I've sold 13 in the last week and has made no difference at all in my pen space, and, of course, five of them don't leave until after the NPIP testing. Mature hens seem to be in high demand, imagine that. Then there are those looking for a discount on mature birds... go fish. 'You want a deal?, ask me in November.'

13! That's great. Don't you love getting low-balled on the mature ones? As if we put no money into feeding and medicating and housing them for the past 3 years or more! We got our asking price on all that we sold, I figured if they don't want to pay it I'll keep them for the feathers.

There is always folks that will try to get you to lower your price, 9 times out of 10 if you advertise them at the price they lowballed you with they would not take them at that price either, see it happen all the time, everyone wants a better deal or to think they got a better deal, me when i want something i shop around and see what it goes for and am willing to pay that for them, i want what i want and trying to get something for nothing is not how i work.
Congratulations an the star peacock sale hope we get to see him in the bright lights one day

I've always tried to come up with a price that seems fair for peas of all ages.I think,,(and the hamster cage is spinning here) that young peachicks hatched and doing well should sell for 1/2 the selling price of a one year old. One year olds cannot breed so since there is still another year before they have real value their price should reflect that. India Blues for example,,2 yr old hens should be worth 100$,and a male the same age no less than $100. When they are a year old,or between 1 and 2 years old,I think their value should be no less than $50. Eggs about $15-$20 a piece. Somewhere into this equation you must consider your feed costs for the adults and you should try to re-coup this alone thru egg or peachick sales. Any birds left to grow older would give you cushion for building expense and pen building. Funny, had a guy came here the other nite wanting a breeding aged IB,,so I showed him both b/s and barred winged males,,gave him a price of $75 and he said that was high,,,really?? He took a nice barred winged 2 year old male and did pay me $75 for him,,,but does that price seem high? I'd of liked to got $100 for him but I have about 8 more to sell with no hens to go with them so it is what it is.

I don't think it is high at all FBC. It is like you said you need to make up for feed cost. You should inform buyers that unlike chickens who mature in what like a year, peacocks take time and money to raise up to maturity so the price should reflect that at least some. I think the first peafowl I sold I was asking $75 as well and I had a lady talk me down in price to around $50 for a 2 year old peacock. I let her buy the bird for a lower price because A. I sort of knew her kids from high school and B. She was getting the peacock for her husband for their anniversary which was that day and her husband is a bird guy. Of course this year I learned that their family dogs often kill their chickens, so who knows if the poor peacock was killed.

I feel better when the buyer is willing to pay the asking price. It makes me feel like they care about the bird more. I was happy that the other 2 year old I sold the buyer didn't question the price at all, although she had bought peafowl before so she probably knew what to expect.

I personally find it amazing that you can get a peacock, even a nice peacock, for $100 yet for a dog you generally spend more to get yet dogs are so much more common. All my friends are amazed when they ask me how much a mature peacock sells for and I tell them around $100 dollars. They always think they would fetch more cash.

I heard a guy say tonight at church that his mom got a "deal" on a designer purse for $100. Just think, people are willing to pay that much for purses, name brand basketball shoes, sunglasses, etc but for a living, breathing, beautiful bird they don't see $100 as fair.

Minx,,we deal with selling puppies upwards of $2000. Because of this price it really narrows down the tire kickers from the serious gsd lovers. We fight the Sunday Journal $200 gsd's as well selling in the classifieds section. People try to get us to lower our prices by saying they only want a companion dog. The funny thing is every puppy is a companion dog,,what they don't realize is that a gsd that will be titled or showed has a diffrent criteria when choosing a puppy compared to it's littermates.

People that bawk about peacock prices probably only have a few birds,a small pen that maybe took them a few days hours to build I spent thousands of dollars just to make my aviary and the building they are housed in during the winter. But to many buyers the investment I made should not be reflected in a selling price. I know it was my choice to build the facilities I have but if people came to buy and the birds was living in a mudd hole with no shelter you can bet they would really think they could buy on the cheep.

Wow, I never have had anyone talk me down and I wouldn't expect to be either, not with a bird! Guess I am lucky. I do like pictures when people post on cl, it's a pet peeve of mine!
FBC, I sold my 2 10 month old males IB for 65 last year, so I don't think $75 is high!

Kskingbee, may I ask what you were asking for adult IB, just out of curiousity? Most times I see them posted for $100 UP, you might also check wanted, I see a lot of posts on cl of folks wanting hens as they lost females over winter or just have a male and a hen. Check out facebook, lots wanting ib males too. I just started using facebook last week, sure are a lot of folks that don't know anything! Scary!
