2015 Peafowl Hatching Support Group - Eggs and Chicks!

Pics
When I cracked my eggs open I was kind of mad but at the same time happy. I was mad since the peachicks died when they were developed so far along. But I'm happy knowing I must be doing something right to get them that far but need to fix what is going wrong causing them to die out at this development.

Cann someone plrade tell monxfox thay i woll ne at yhe rsnch ar 9 am the phonre number i got was wtong. I hate cell phoned
Thanks @zazouse I hope the trip wasn't too rough. The contact page on my website has different contact information for me so you can even call my house phone and get someone to then call me...If you call the house number and someone says "Kirkman Company" it is still the right number. Anyways here is a link to my contact page if that helps: http://bamboopeacock.com/Contact.html

I will see you there at 9 AM then!

Well I don't know how to explain funky. Lol. They just look different so I am worried.

So far My eggs I have been getting 100 percent hatch rate but that's only out of the first 4 eggs. I lost the first 3 to my stupidity though in not separating the broody and I had i cannibalistic hen raid her nest. :(

I am sure my percentage will drop as I go along. I have about 10 eggs cooking under broodys.

Bill I didnt set the eggs til the next morn, but they just don't look the same as mine when ready to hatch. Maybe I am just over anxious.

I shipped some eggs and was told 2/5 hatched so that brings the % considerably down.

My little singleton is not picking up on eating yet, a bit worried about her. She seems a little daft in the head! :)

@Birdrain your humidity was too high and the chick did not loose enough moisture. See all that water that drained out? The chick drowned when it pipped.

KKB is dead on with this one Birdrain. Mine never have that much fluid inside that late in development. They usually do not even leave wet spits on the paper towels during the unzipping and if I'm helping them out my fingers don't really get wet. They should be moist but not wet. You need to get a hygrometer now and start checking your humidity during the first 24 days.

I have a question I was hoping you guys could help me with. I'm on day 15 with 6, Local, pea eggs. All are alive. The question is about the air cells. None of them slant, like the air cell drawings you see. They all seem to be perfect even circles in the fat end of the eggs. I will get a pic tonight when I candle and mark the air cells. Anyone know if that is okay or normal for pea eggs? Or what it may indicate?

It is too early for the air cell to begin slanting in your eggs.

ETA - You will see the slant by day 22. Maybe a little earlier depending on your humidity.

Quackery,
I also want to warn you when the eggs are about to hatch, watch that momma hen very very closely or bring her in a pet carrier if possible.

For some reason I have read of many and have a few myself that right at hatch the hen rejects them a bit and they get pushed away from warm momma hen and perish, or worse pecked at. I think it's the fact that they make different sounds than a chicken chick.
Once the mommas feels what feels like a squirmy chick under her she accepts them most times, but I can't count how many times I have found newly hatched baby about 5 inches from mom. If I stick them back under her repeatedly that first couple hours, she is ok.

Also if with other birds make sure they are protected. I lost 3 this spring to a mean egg eater 3 days before hatch! Didn't realize I had a hen pecking eggs that were under another hen! Was a first for me and I was just going out to isolate her. :(

Ok that being said, broody hen is way to go every time! Better hatch rate and I like the fact mom shows them how to eat, etc.

I have more questions about the broody chicken raising the peafowl...everything is still going ok and i have about two weeks left of mama sitting on the eggs...but what about after they hatch...this particular broody chicken cut her babies loose at exactly 4 weeks t the day from when they hatched...all worked out fine for the chicken chicks but at the time i was worried they were too young to be without mama...they integrated into the flock just fine after a couple weeks of them haning out on the fringes...but if this mama does the same thing with the peachicks, is that too soon to leave peachicks on their own? if this happens would i then have to pen up the peachicks until they reach a certain age or let them be out with the chicken flock?
