2015 United Peafowl Association Convention

Drum roll please - The 2015 UPA Convention will be held in.....

FLORIDA!!!
Being a Florida resident and native I can tell you that here we really do have bright white sandy beaches and the dry sand squeaks when you walk on it. Not only do we have the beautiful beaches, but we also have wonderful bays, winding rivers, and jungle-like swamps.

The host will be the Rocking BAB Ranch.

While the Rocking BAB is in Defuniak FL, the UPA will be staying on Okaloosa Island in Ft. Walton Beach FL.

Cost:

? Not sure yet it said $50 includes the annual dinner but I doubt in total it is $50.

Thursday Sep. 17
Time Event
1-4 PM Check in, meet & greet, enjoy the beach.
2-4 PM Board of Directors meeting
4-5 PM Round Table discussion, question and answer time.
5:30 PM Dinner on your own - Perhaps you would like to try one of the many seafood restaurants.
7-9 PM Josh Nelson (Rocking BAB Manager) gives Power Point presentation.

Noon-4 PM Lunch on your own, free time, etc - Suggested Ideas: Gulfarium, Pirate Ship, water sports, shopping, or other activities.

So plan on a trip to Florida! If you cannot make it, please consider contributing to the UPA's auction that helps them raise funds. The auction auctions off peafowl themed items so if you have something peafowl themed you no longer want or you can make something, that would be a big help! If you have a good photograph of a peafowl frame it and send it in to the auction, you can do stained glass peafowl art, painting, quilting, clothing, or you can even submit some of your own peafowl to be auctioned off!


This information was released in the UPA's Peafowl Today Magazine in May, but me being busy forgot to renew my membership (luckily I remembered and renewed it today) so I just now got the magazine and I think the only reason why I got it is they had extras and my peafowl photo was on the cover. Speaking of extras, they did send me 3 extra magazines so if you would like the convention information in magazine form or you would like to see what the UPA's magazine is like I can send one to you.

I hope to see some familiar faces there!

Thanks New 2 Pfowl! I wish all of us BYC peafowl peeps could meet up someday, but I know since we all live all over the place (and in some cases all over the world) that would be just about impossible to do. Luckily we can all talk on here.

There have been some people going to the other UPA conventions that I have wanted to meet so I really hope they will be coming to this meet-up in Florida. I know sometimes you get different crowds depending on the area you are holding the event.

I already know Josh a bit - in fact I am about to call him probably after this post - but there are some other breeders I hope to meet such as Sid of Texaspeafowl but I don't know if he attends the conventions anymore.

I will probably get to meet Zazouse a lot sooner than the convention so that is exciting!

I was worried what I would do about class and then I remembered that graphic design classes are rarely on Fridays so I checked my Fall semester schedule. I have one class on Thursday that lasts from 11 AM to 1:40 PM and it takes around 45 min. to get to Okaloosa Island so I shouldn't miss much of the first day. That makes me super happy that I don't have to miss class.

No, I did not go last year. The 2006 or 2007 convention at Rocking BAB last time got us started in peafowl.
