2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Pics
Here are the little Easter Bunnies. 15 days old & to my surprise were in & out of the nest and all over the cage this evening. The spotted one is a little shy so it didn't quite show itself for pics.

AWWWW they are adorable! I used to have a little tan one named Sassafrass. She was an indoor baby and the boys left her out one day, the neighbor's stupid dog got her. I cried for a month. I'm so glad I don't live in the city anymore.

They won't rot unless they are really old, that's why most of us remove the oldest eggs from the nest. They also lose fertility the older the eggs get.
That is so weird. You would think it would go bad after a few days. YEA! I might get babies after all! I'm going to put as many as I can in an incubator, if I can make a decision on one! Thank you!

I love them, I didn't realize how much I missed raising them. Hubby named the tan one butterscotch, if it were up to him we would keep them all lol. I would too, but I've turned it into a project by documenting their characteristics. Trying to achieve my own version of this cross. I used to do it with my geese too, once I achieved the right look of the crossbreed I no longer had to write it down.

Goose eggs will keep for awhile, for example a goose in the wild may lay 18 eggs before she sits. They lay every other day, so the first egg in her nest is at least 36 days old. That's over a month! The largest gaggle of Canada goslings that I have seen in the wild with the parents was 25. It was on a private pond and the property owner said that they hadn't seen but one pair all season. That first egg was OLD.

If my leg wasn't hurting I would be jumping up and down!!! I know there's over 20 and one was stepped on and broke (gooey mess that was). The geese are getting more aggressive and Laverne is spending more time in goose house so I might be swapping out eggs. I left old ones out and moved newer ones in case another breaks.

*Peeks in*   Hi everyone. How's things going this year?

:frow

No eggs here yet, although after checking my records it looks like they didn't start laying last year until March 24th, so I might have been jumping the gun expecting eggs already. Although in previous years they started in February. I'm just hoping I get an egg or two by the 18th so I can set them for Easter. We'll see.

Mine all started the beginning of February. Just now starting to get into the mood to go set. I'm much further south than you and we've had a very mild winter this year.

I'm not using the incubator this year as there is just too much going on around here.

Well not good the last 2 days. My mother is about to lose her dog if she comes over for breakfast again! She had 2 goose eggs this morning and 3 yesterday morning. Good thing they were they were the old ones. On a better note I finally decided on an incubator and it should be delivered soon. Today I will be looking over the incubating thread again. I'm getting excited! My little Leonardo has turned into a complete monster! He not only bit my leg but actually tried to take my shoe off. Guess who was grabbed by the neck and held down for a good talking to...guess who didn't come near me the rest of the day? LOL I actually feel kind of bad for scaring him so bad, I thought his eyeballs were going to pop out, poor thing.
