In the Brooder
I have another quick question.. my girl started laying February 26th and laid her 37th egg last night. So there's no end in site at this point.. is it normal for this much time to go by?

Is this her first laying season? My Toulouse laid 40 eggs her first season from Late Jan to mid May. Every year since it's been less eggs but they do have a pretty long laying season.I have another quick question.. my girl started laying February 26th and laid her 37th egg last night. How long has the little one been externally pipped? I'm a hands on hatcher so I'm always fiddling with my eggs, lol. Sometimes they do need help.
Thanks!
I've never had the yelling with mine either so I'm not sure what's going on with that. My gander does sit in the coop sometimes with my broody girl to keep her company and help her guard the nest, but that's it.
I had two new hatchers this weekend! And one more on the way that seems to have drawn down. Here are the two new babies:

That's awesome to hear..Little pokey started pipping night before last. This morning the membrane was glued to the poor baby, one eye was covered and it was so stiff I had to spray the little thing down quite a bit. I worked with a washcloth rubbing gently and spraying and finally got everything off his face. I thought the poor baby had died but once I started working on him his mouth started going. I removed some of the shell but left the membrane, one little piece I removed started bleeding. Is this normal since it was only shell I removed? I put a little pressure on it after I sprayed it and it stopped, it was only a tiny bit of blood. Needless to say I did not remove any shell after that happened. I'm guessing all his complaining wore him out and he is sleeping now. I'm going to wait about an hour before bothering him and spray again if the stuff is starting to dry. I'm hoping everything is moist enough so he can pop out when he wakes up. The other egg still hasn't done a thing, should I candle it or leave it?
UPDATE!!! Walked downstairs just to look and his top half is out!!!! The poor baby is exhausted! He is peeping a little louder and opens eyes for a sec then falls asleep. He should be out after his little nap! I'm soooo happy right now!!!
They always lay more their first year then each year after not quite as many but still alot. They sure make great omelets and I share a few with friends too.Yes! This is her first time![]()
How many eggs are in her nest? I was just reading in another thread your goose is broody? Hopefully she isn't sitting on the whole 37 eggs. lol..Is it true the female will roll the "bad" eggs out of her nest? I noticed this past week that there were eggs far outside of the nest. Not knowing any better I put them back. Only to read later that rotten eggs can explode and hurt the orher eggs.. now i feel bad for undoing her hard work!
