2017 Gosling Hatch a long!!

Pics
Oh, I have a first layer who decided to set a clutch! She only has 5 eggs under and has been setting for a week but boy she won't let nobody near her, she's guarding her eggs like there's no tomorrow! So of proud of my little coocoo marran! :)

No news on the 1 I still think might be viable. I'm leaning towards no though. 1 egg stank so I eggtopsied. I would say it was 3/4 developed. So I still have 2 in. 1 still have hopes for, the other probably not. Besides the power outage, I had had trouble with stable temps before. Sigh. I definitely need a better, more stable bator. I may weigh next time as well though it won't be here until mine start laying. Even then I think I'd rather the geese hatch them!

My gateway poultry has some interesting news. 1 of the button quail has gone broody which is pretty rare for them. I don't know how long she has been at it because I haven't been paying enough attention to them. I kept up on food and water of course, but left eggs in there. Must have hit a magic number for her lol.
I've got to find out what to do with the chicks once hatched, assuming she doesn't quit. I don't want to move her, but she is in a small aviary with 4 other adults.
I sympathise. I had a cheap nasty Chinese incubator off eBay last year and lost nearly all my hatch. It turned out the humidity reading had been wrong and I'd drowned the lot.
This year I bought myself a new incubator and it's a whole different story. Much better results.:D

As for the natural way to hatch, I don't know. I have a hen gone broody and it's a nightmare. She got so so stressed that we isolated her. Then she crushed her eggs and the whole lot are covered in egg and embryos. She's about a week into it and I'm interested to see what happens really.
I prefer incubating I think!;)
It'll be good to see how your Mummy Quail gets on...hopefully better than my hen!:fl

Any update tk10?
No, i think ive lost them. In other news, im not allowed to keep waterfowl at all. I have 1 set of terrible neighbors who reported me. Even though we are spread out and it doesnt affect them at all. My Rouen duck can be loud when its feeding time, loud enough to be heard anyway. I knew it was a risk, ughh. So if you decide you want my Sebbies, let me know. I have no idea how to ship them, but i could figure it out.

Oh I'm sorry tk10 that sucks. :hugs
We had trouble with neighbours disliking our cockerel. Thankfully they moved in the end, though not because of us I'd like to add!
It's such a shame when people are so intolerant. :he

I'm really sorry :( Are they illegal where you are or was the neighbor just complaining?

If you need a good home for them you can send them my way, I can walk you through shipping them too.

So sorry to hear that :( is it regulation? Can you challenge the city/county you're in?

Have you spoken with the neighbor? Possibly offer them eggs? Not sure if it's worth it, but it's always a shot.

How old are your sebbies and where are you located?

They are 7 weeks old and very friendly. Boy/girl pair, Klaus and Violet. I'm in WI

Awwwww. I feel like that would be one heck of a stressful trip to get them all the way to NC.

Do you really have to rehome them?? :(
