2017 Groundhog Day Hatch-a-long!

Thank you Sally! Its day 28 today for my pekin duck thats in the hatcher its the only egg in there. Im holding my nerves at bay and being patient praying that its just resting and going to be a late hatcher i do believe im more nervous over this duck then i was with my chicks! My chicks were pro's they hatched like popcorn popping lol but this little duckie is working me over haha! Thank you again for all of the info :) :)

I set more eggs, now some in hatcher and two batches double stacked in other lol

Awesome! Who else has birds scheduled to hatch ON Groundhog day???

Chicks went into lockdown 5 minutes ago!!!! Right before we actually went into lockdown, we had a family candling experience! My dad went live on facebook and we had a live Q&A session and my sisters and brother got to see it. Out of 26 eggs I set, 1 I am 100% sure never even started developing, I guess it was infertile, everybody else looks alive though!! I think....I saw one egg moving this morning and when we candled it, it was so active and bumping around!
That is so exciting!

Yay!!!! Lockdown for me is tomorrow! I'll stick to day 18 but might wait until night as I had trouble with keeping humidity stable last time... I'm using a slightly better incubator than last so we shall see... I have one super giant egg (the OE) that if it hatches I know will be late...

Sadly enough it dropped below zero last night and my hen abandoned the nest

congrats! what are you getting?

Hmm... Well maybe she internally knew that it got too cold to hatch... Perhaps she'll try again when the weather is warmer with better luck.

The lowest it gets where I am in Central California is 29... It's interesting to me that naturally hatched chicks don't need as great warmth requirements when with their mama. They will stay under her for the earliest part of the morning and then run around with her outside for the rest. Our highs have been 50-60 and they don't seem to mind, whereas chicks in a brooder cry if they get the slightest bit chilly.
