2018 Hatchalong

Pics
Love seeing pics of your flock. They are almost as cool as buff dewlaps. ;)

23! That's a LOT of baby turkeys! Pics?

Had a chance to check on my broody goose's eggs and looks like no goslings hatching here this week. Not sure what happened. I gave her 3 developing eggs. One was missing, one turned wrong for hatching and looks like third one hit vein when internally pipping. Bummer.

I'll try and get pics of the turkeys once they're active. I didn't know if they were all fertile and little did i know they were all fertile . Buff is the nicest colour on a goose i think and I'd say I'm being very biased now haha. White on a African goose is the most beautiful and majestic.

That's a shame, i also had goose eggs disappearing at night and it wasn't a fox or dog so it baffled me. Rats would leave evidence, besides i haven't seen them at all this year.

On the other hand, my buff goose with 4 eggs are all hatching. Well it's 3 eggs since one was mal-positioned in the egg and died. Unfortunately it was a buff gosling. But the other 3 are 2 buffs and 1 brown African. I'm taking the 2 buff goslings and the goose keeps the brown.

Is the general advice to wait for draw down before raising the humidity, or even for internal pip?

Also when to stop turning? I'm uncertain the usual incubation time for shetlands.

Congrats on the buff african goslings, Serv!
Congrats on the solo gosling, Athena. Ducklings make great brooding buddies. :)

Rural, I place egg dipped side up and stop turning around day 25. I raise humidity when I have my first internal pip, because I like to interfere and open bator and candle until last minute, but you can also raise on day 28 regardless of pipping. In nature, a goose will give herself a good soaking before locking down on nest to hatch, so humidity is raised prior to internal pipping.

Thank you, I'm pretty hands on too, need to know what's happening in there. I just did call ducks, none hatched unassisted. I'm hoping these will do a bit better.
