2018 Nankin Bantams Discussion

Everyone who hatches Nankins in incubator (I'm using NR 360) can you weigh in on whether they tend to pip and hatch early? I've read every Nankin thread I can find, so forgive me if it's been covered already...the internet seems to be firmly divided between "yes, my bantams always hatch early" and "no, the incubation is 21 days + or - just like any other chicken. " I know variables such as temp etc. affect that, just looking for trends as I decide what day to lockdown.

I'm not sure...I was gonna tag the person I bought my Nankin eggs from but their account seems to have been deleted.

My two Nankin hatch this year abpot 10 eggs each, one set mailed other mine. Each had a chick hatch at 19 days the rest peeped at 21. Leave the first chick in incy so other chicks in egg can hear, I feel this is more natural setting. Same incy as you. I have been raising Nankins in Roseburg, Oregon for over 10 years. Hope this helps. Carol

Mine are in lockdown! I candled before I put them in and a lot of them looked good, though I did have one non Nankin egg on the other side go bad and crack a little, so I had to take everything out and do a super quick clean and sanitization! I hope the rest are fine...I've never actually had an egg go bad before while incubating...guess I've just been lucky! I'll report back with pictures if things go well!

Mine are pipping and chirping! I was asking about timing...yesterday was day 19 and a few started pipping internally and one chirped back at me. By 5 am today (day 20) three had the first shell pip and three others are pipped internally and chirping. The other two are alive as I can see movement on both when candling, but no head or beak apparent and one is a little sloshy (air cell issue maybe, as that one has a big saddle.) Fingers crossed!
