Complete newbie here! We went to TSC Sunday and spur of the moment came home with chicks. Husband has been wanting them for years so when the opportunity was there he took it. We are clueless on just about everything and have been hitting Google hard since Sunday which led us here. We have 13. 7 Sussex hens 3 Cornish hens and 3 "roos" of unknown breed. The guy at TSC said he could sex them then flipped them upside down and said if they fight they are roos. Haha! We didn't know better at the time. They are around 1-2 weeks. Looking forward to learning more!

View attachment 1300683 I got the coop and the chicks the same day. I treated the coop and put it together, now I'm making the covered run and I got to get that done sooner then later.

My coop and my German Shepherd that knows something will be in there but doesn't have a clue what yet...lol

Is this the coop from TSC? I think this is the same one we got Monday! They had a 15% off that day so it was a real steal. Can I ask what you sealed it with? We read the reviews and saw lots of people had trouble but figure if we take our time to put it together with the right adjustments we can make it work!

I went to Menards and they recommended the sealer. I threw the can away and I don't remember what it was. It dried clear fairly quickly. I know it was for outdoor stuff. I who can't put anything together found it to be really easy. No adjustments needed. Seems pretty sturdy

YAY! this is a great idea. I am new to chickens (raising them on my own, my mom had them years ago)

Welcome! Those are cute little chicks. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but your Americanas are Easter Eggers, so expect green, brown, blue, or white eggs. They’ll all look different as they age. I have to EE and they are quite the characters.

Welcome!
This site is so fantastic, there are so many helpful people to answer questions for all of us newbies! :)

Yes I'm really enjoying learning on here. Especially being able to talk with lots of experienced owners. The guy at TSC said he raised tons of chickens but from what I've learned here I was given a lot of misinformation by him. Oh well we are on the right track now!
