2018 Newbie Chat!

I saw the pancake as well. I guess we all must be hungry! Great idea on using the phone flashlight...

I guess unless your doing a breading program and want to ID witch hens being mated, I don’t understand the leg bands? For the typical back yard flock it shouldn’t matter. ???

I have several of the same breed and would like to tell them apart at a glance.
2 black Australorp
2 partridge rocks
2 Silver Penciled Rocks
3 Speckled Sussex

I’ve noticed that I can tell my 3 SLW apart but it’s difficult and extremely difficult with two of them.

That is why I got all different breeds, except the brahmas. They are pretty much identical. I thought one had a little more black but now it doesn't seem to be the case.

One of my Welsummer “Ginkgo” lays XXL eggs 6/7 days a week! Her eggs aren’t as dark or speckled as her hatch mate, but boy does she make up for it in egg size! I’m so impressed with my Welsummer egg laying!

It’s kind of funny now because it never occurred to me to get just one of a breed.
I mean I do have just one Silkie and one gold sex link but I’m new to chickens and I’m trying to find what breeds I really like.
There’s over 300 different chicken breeds. I’m not going to try them all (wouldn’t that be crazy!).
A lot of it, for me personally, has to do with temperament.
That’s extremely important to me.
So I felt like 2 or 3 of the same breed would give me a better example of what they can be like.

Someone had mentioned something about raccoons being dangerous to dogs.

Well this dog is fighting for its life due to an infection from a raccoon bite. Raccoons do not play
