[No More Empty Nest]

I was just catching up on everything here. I do so hope Agatha is ok! I love the name Roo, my first thought was it was from Winnie the Pooh, lol.
My chicks are doing well, The Polish, Amber, is the one that yells and fights when you pick her up. She does better if another chick is around though. The cochin, Diamond, is really friendly and cuddly. She just settles down in your hand. The EEs are friendly too. Except Opal is a bit skittish. She had some pasty butt and I had to clean it off, it was really stuck. So she's a little wary. But does settle down in hand.
It appears I'm going to have a lot of dark chickens, at least their wings are, lol. The Polish will be black with a white head. The cochin is mottled so white on black. Pearl's wings are black with white. Opal's are black with a tiny bit of gray/white on them, darker than Pearl's. Jade's wings are keeping her chick coloring, black with a little brown. It'll be interesting to see what they will look like fully feathered. I snapped this picture of Amber and Pearl's tails. So cute. Amber on the left.

@ChooksNQuilts, if you have a whole foods they will have the collidal silver over in the vitamin/beauty section. Try not to worry too much, Agatha is eating and drinking very good signs. They do doze quite a bit when they're healing so don't fret. I know you've heard this a billion times but chickens are tough, really tough.

Awwwwwwwww they are the cutest ever! Those lil tails! So incredibly cute - Not sure whats happening with Roo's tail feathers, they are such that they have taken on the look of dreadlocks - in fact all his/her downy feathers are such that if I didn't know better I'd think (s)he had joined the Rastafarian movement lol. I've seen Roo's biological parents both look like a big puff ball of feathers on legs so I am assuming Roo will grow to look the same
Lovely name choices, clever how you've gone with the gems, the image I have from your description of their colours is stunning, would be lovely (and interesting) to see them as they grow - maybe you will privilege us with updating photo's - I hope so

Really thank you so much to everyone for your encouragement and prayers for her.
I do have hope that she’ll get through this.
They gave me some wound spray at TS from Rooster Booster. It has tea tree oil in it.
The lady there said her bird practically got his whole tail torn off and this stuff healed it right up.
I haven’t used it yet.
I don’t know if I will.
She’s doing good with the Veterycin.
Amazon has colloidal silver spray and even a creme.

I put her on the roost with the Emily and Angus after spraying her tonight.
She’s getting frustrated with being in the crate.

I wanted to let you both know in case you didn’t: the chicks first feathers are juvenile feathers.
They will start a juvenile molt at about 3 months old and get their adult feathers/colors.
Some will look very different from their juvenile colors.
My NN pullet Emily was black and white as a juvenile. She had a tiny bit of tan. You could barely see it.
Now she is white with gorgeous red brown and tan. There’s very little black.

The dark one, Taka, has a bunch of white now!
Who knew!
And Skye is just beautiful. Can’t wait for the adult colors!

hi, I yesterday I bought two little cuckoo marans to put under broody hens. one has been brooding for 4 month. I tried all the way I knew to stop the broodiness in two hens (Chicken Little and Henny Penny) . cooling the chickens with cool water , giving very cold water to drink, shoving them out of the nest numerous times a day, locking hens out of the chicken coop, isolating hens in a kennel to get extra air flow too cool them. putting frozen vegetables in the nests,( they both sat and thawed them out. I even put hens in cold water. So I gave in and put 1 little chick under each hen this morning before it got light. I a afraid they might freak out and hurt the chicks, what is the probability the chick will be okay. Right now the hens are sitting on the chicks and are all fluffed out with wing out so for now it looks okay. when do I need to move the hens and chicks?

I saw this with Pedro and Jellybean but wasn't sure about Roo because Roo is already the colour of her parents only a little lighter, - saw it with the drakes too but Midnight and Aurora are still the same colour they were as ducklings but mostly have their adult feathers now, so I had just assumed it depended on the breed - obviously I now know this isn't the case and I'm thinking perhaps Roo might darken with age, Tis exciting either way.
Would love to see updated pics of your flocks - I don't know about anyone else but I love seeing pictures of peoples flocks/coups/pets, as well as peoples stories etc, goes a long way to brightening a day
