Many things happening around here.

Pippin is broody!
She is hugely puffed up and has been in the nest for hours.
She hisses and growls and tries to bite me if I try to move her.
Not the best time of year for chicks but she could still be fertile from Silkie!

Red keeps trying to lay but nothing happens.
She seems better after having passed the soft shelled egg the other day but I still haven’t gotten an actual egg from her since Monday last week.
Agatha and Emily have resumed laying.

I strongly believe Frodo may have an impacted crop.
I gave him a thorough examination today and noticed his crop is large and full but hard.
I can feel all kinds of “stuff” in there.
He’s so thin!!
Almost skeletal. It’s heartbreaking! :hit
I will check his crop first thing tomorrow morning to see if it emptied.
I have replaced the bantams pelleted food with crumble which Frodo seems to have an easier time with.
I’m also going to give him/them some Ultrakibble for Chicks mixed with chick grit.
I’m hoping the mixture of regular grit and small grit will help Frodo break down this mass.

How many eggs is she sitting on?

Probably just one...and the fake ceramic egg.
I thought she might lay more in the next few days but I guess when they go broody they stop laying?
I don’t think I could give her back the ones she laid yesterday and the day before because they’ve been in the fridge.
It’s not guaranteed they’ll quit laying. Mark the egg she’s sitting on. My rose laid an additonal egg while sitting. It wasn’t fertilized so it didn’t incubate at all thank goodness.

If you guys get tired if me talking about Prince--just let me know...lol

I took a half day at work so I could pick up leaves that have fallen and put them in the run. Pretty sad I have to take a half day to get this stuff done. That's another thread.

So I goy to observe Prince for a couple hours. I'm pretty convinced he knows the girls names because when I say Prince go watch Preciuos, he goes right to Precious, same with all of them.so he got smart, Precious likes to escape out of the side area and it drives him nuts. He now stands guard at that spit so she can't leave. I thought there was no way that was what he was doing, but the more I watched I realized it's exactly what he is doing. He is starting to call the girls more and more for treats. Now I'm wondering if his flogging when I have a bag(food or treats) was because he wants to be the one to call the girls and not me. Far fetched but it makes sense if I watch him.

The other thing he did today was amazing and the only way he did this was by watching me and he does--very intently. I have this netting that hangs down and I always get caught in it, so I step on it break free. One of the girls got caught in the netting, she was freaking out. As I was trying to get to her, Pribce did this side step thing and stepped on that netting and got her out. He did exactly what I do when I'm stuck. I'm pretty convinced he learned that watching me, I do not see how he would know how to do it exactly the same way--not possible.

I read in another thread that sometimes it’s good to give the rooster the treats so he can pass them out to his girls.

I do that with Angus when I give them certain items like bread or raisins or things like that.
He seems to be pleased to turn and let the girls take it from him.

He was chasing Oliver around the yard today.
It was really comical!
It wasn’t really aggressive, just like he was making sure Oliver knows he’s the alpha lol.
