2/3 chicks have hatched
One still has to zip. I woke up to find two of them chirping away. There was quite a bit of blood in the incubator so one of the chicks wasn’t quite ready, but it seems to be doing okay now. One is black and one is blue so far. The black one is a cockerel for sure. Such big legs.
I’ll post pictures when the sun comes up.

& like that all three are out.

Okay so I decided not to get the Bresse due to reviews regarding the hatchery they sourced the breeder birds from.

But I did get 4 more babies today! :ya

Two barred Rocks and two EE.

I put them with the other chicks.
Everyone seems to be okay except the bantams keep pecking at the barred Rocks faces and toes.
They seem fascinated by them because there weren’t any black chicks in the brooder with them at the TSC.

Tonight after dark I took Bootsie out of the coop and put her in the rabbit hutch in the garage.
I’m hoping she’ll adopt the LF chicks and hopefully Mitzi will take the bantams.
I’m not sure if it will work at all.
I haven’t tried to see if one of these broody girls will adopt chicks before.
Usually they say the chicks should be only a couple of days old.
And of course my surviving Buff Orpington is almost two weeks old now.
But she’s not that much bigger than the two EEs. The barred Rocks are smaller and still have their “egg tooth”.
I hope it works!:fl
