2019 may hatch a long!!!!!!

Pics
Mavis (cuckoo marans) has 8 chicks now. Beazley (buff orp) & Maris (also a cuckoo marans) pooled their eggs (which sucks, as they started sitting several days apart). They have hatched at least 8 & are still taking turns sitting on the remaining eggs. I can't tell how many chicks are there because Maris bites. :D
Lucy Langshan is sitting on 7 or 9 (I forget) they aren't due to hatch for another few days.
YAY!!! Chickies!!!

:( for the lost bantam, but Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy for the rest! We need baby pics!

That’s not actually Golden Neck, that’s Mille Fleur.

This is Golden Neck:

DAY 14- out of 3 dozen silkie eggs set - I've got a dozen developing nicely- down from a few scrambled from shipping, several that just didn't develop, a couple of blood rings and 2 early quitters. (I'm not complaining- I ordered 2 dozen and was sent 3 dozen so I'm right on the hoped for 50% mark so far.) Shipping is hard on eggs but I'm optimistic with what I've got left. I just finished day 14 candling. Air cells look good for their age and the few saddle and loose air cell ones were the one that didn't develop. Everyone now has their air cells in the right place and the right size. I saw lots of good strong veins and lots of wiggling. Here's hoping!

This will be my first time hatching shipped eggs, and I know they will have a less hatch rate butty how much? I'm getting four eggs, will this be enough? the person I am getting them from only as one hen so I have to wait about five days for the hen to lay them and then another three days to ship. Is this ok had well.

No way of telling what kind of hatch rate you will get. My first time ever hatching shipped eggs I ordered a dozen and the seller sent 15 and I hatched 11 healthy chicks, but honestly I've never done that well percentage wise since with shipped eggs. (Lots of times you do get extras but with this seller only having only one hen, maybe not). I would be mildly concerned with age of eggs and the assumption that her hen will lay every day straight but it may still work out. Is there something special about this particular seller like a very close location or a hard to find breed? Otherwise, I think I might be tempted to order from someone with a few more hens both for fresher eggs and the possibility of a few extras. I also would wonder if only one hen means someone who has little experience shipping eggs? A good experienced packer can help hatching rates. But in the end, it is pretty much luck of the draw. I wouldn't count on all 4 hatching and I would figure out what you are going to do if you only get one chick. Heck, that happened to me a couple of years ago with a dozen eggs. My cat got wild and knocked the incubator off the table and I lost everything but one. I had a broody (when you have a bunch of silkies, you pretty much always have a broody) and I stuck him under the mom and he was happy. But without a mom, raising one chick by himself is problematic. Will you use a broody, get a friend chick from the feed store or elsewhere locally, or whatever? It is something to think about.
