2019 may hatch a long!!!!!!

No way of telling what kind of hatch rate you will get. My first time ever hatching shipped eggs I ordered a dozen and the seller sent 15 and I hatched 11 healthy chicks, but honestly I've never done that well percentage wise since with shipped eggs. (Lots of times you do get extras but with this seller only having only one hen, maybe not). I would be mildly concerned with age of eggs and the assumption that her hen will lay every day straight but it may still work out. Is there something special about this particular seller like a very close location or a hard to find breed? Otherwise, I think I might be tempted to order from someone with a few more hens both for fresher eggs and the possibility of a few extras. I also would wonder if only one hen means someone who has little experience shipping eggs? A good experienced packer can help hatching rates. But in the end, it is pretty much luck of the draw. I wouldn't count on all 4 hatching and I would figure out what you are going to do if you only get one chick. Heck, that happened to me a couple of years ago with a dozen eggs. My cat got wild and knocked the incubator off the table and I lost everything but one. I had a broody (when you have a bunch of silkies, you pretty much always have a broody) and I stuck him under the mom and he was happy. But without a mom, raising one chick by himself is problematic. Will you use a broody, get a friend chick from the feed store or elsewhere locally, or whatever? It is something to think about.
Thank you, yes I have had a hard time finding someone that will ship d,uccle eggs at a good price. I'm hoping it all works out!

Incu is officially shut down. It's only just barely day 21.

I have 26 chickies

36 set, 3 clear by day 10. 2 dead before lockdown. 5 dead after lockdown never pipped.

2 hatched unassisted with yolk out. 2 assisted after external pip. 2 given air holes after internal pip and no external. Of those 2 one hatched on its own, the other was fully assisted 24 hours after safty hole. (This one was completely ready to hatch but seems very weak.)

This is only year 2 with the hovabator and it's getting temp spikes.

Yay! :wee That's not bad for an incubator with temp issues. Did you do eggtopsies of the 5 who died after lockdown?

Just a thought, here ... but if you're still looking for d'uccles ... are you anywhere even close to Shreveport, LA? I have family visiting from there at some point this summer ... and they may be willing to take back a breeding pair of porcelain show birds.

Darned shame! I've been fussy about placing this pair, and now I may just have to build another coop and run. When I first got back into chickens, no one warned me that "Chicken Math" applies to buildings, too!

Yup lol I'm about to remodel my coop with more roosting bars and space. Chickens are like chips you cant have just one:D

I have a double dose of the "disease." I have the same problem ... and the wooden sign that goes with it ... with cats!

No. The last 2 were likely malpositions. They never pipped internally. I had a safety hole in one and after assisting the last one that was stuck i opened the aircell on the last 2. One was alive still but died an hour later.

Another seemed to have been contaminated. It had green spots appear on the shell. The other 2 stopped moving and the veins were gone. I forget what prompted me to candle them.
