We are both permanent residents, my wife is from Romania, i'm German. We can apply for the U.S. citizenship not before June next year.

As said: That's kind of a gray area and as a permanent resident you are walking a thin line. You can still be refused entry into the U.S. at the border without telling you the reason why. And the residency can be withdrawn very easy, i just had a colleague who lost his residency for a DUI. (Ok he's an idiot! Don't drink and drive. Just don't!) He had 30 days to leave the country…
