2019 Spring Ducklings are here!

Friends: I bought below plastic spiral bands from Stromberg, has anybody of you managed to put one of these onto a ducklings leg? I need two hands to spread them apart and then i have no hand left to hold the duckling! So far i helped myself by attaching the rings to the ducklings legs with zip-ties, but those must come off tomorrow as they have grown.

What about wrapping a little body in a hand towel turn over on its back so legs are sticking up in the air?

All, it is forecasted to be 24°C (75F) on Thursday here with cloudy skies and no harsh sunlight. I am thinking about a short excursion to the outside with little ones to meet the grown up ducks through the fence. Any concerns?

Should be fine, especially if you can find a dry spot. Don’t let them get wet outside yet though.

Update on Forest: Her leg is getting better and i had to rescue her only twice today, once she got stuck in the Apple Cider Bottle because the Green White Layer ran into her and stuffed her into the hole up to her tiny wings. Here are two pictures of her with the hobble:

She is so p*ssed about me because i dragged her out of the MHC, but she was the last one for the scale and i was waiting for her to come out…

I cut some Iceberg salad for the little ones, so fa there is only one vegetarian duckling:

All the others stick with the duckling starter crumbles. Will try meal worms tomorrow as a treat after weighting…

No, i don't! - But its the best for her! She would have a hard time to survive with the other 14. I am not always there to pull her out of the Apple Cider Bottle when stupid green White Layer (the large one!) rams her in again.

She is going to be a house duck for a while (if the leg heals ok), or forever if necessary. So I can guarantee she will be loved and spoiled rotten!
